NB,
Since you have the digital camera out, are quite proficient with it, and in close proximity, could I trouble you for a couple of photos of "Red" and perhaps some details on the boat? I would love to move to a 23 Sceptre from the 20 Seafari I currently have. It would fit my usage profile perfectly. Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

Glad you found the ID plate!!
I'm sure it was one "unusual site" going down the road...
and now it feels good to finally have her home.

The VDH carved in the anchor locker doors are original for the 60's.

From my small log on boat numbers, appears the:
21-footers have numbers from 50's thru 100's.
19-foot bowriders in 1965 numbered 300's,
1966 numbered 400's, 1967 numbered 500's,
1968-69 numbered 600's.
27-footers numbered 200's, built in 1967-1968, maybe in 69.

There are variations on this depending on when the boat first took title ... that became the "year of the boat".

Ken, I showed CM the photos of your boat. At first he was excited you found one, then cringed when seeing her condition. He remembers a lot about her construction and very willing to help you in any way.

I also learned on many boats in the 60's, he wrote with an indulible pen, the ID number, on starboard side, on the transom, just below the gunwale. This was a secret place in case the boat was stolen and ID plate removed.

Looking forward to seeing progress pictures and her transformation.

She looks mutch better there in my camp site than she did
in the trees last wed. pictures still don't show her true
greatness look forward to seeing her clean this week.

This is without a doubt the "Flagship of the Fleet".

I agree with Sandy on one thing here. When you get ready to do something that will be labor intensive and where many hands will make light the work, let's plan a SeaCraft gathering at area 442. We'll all gather at the SeaCraft. I'm sure we can make it a BYOB&B picnic. (Bring Your Own Beverage & Beef)

Hows the cleanin etc comin along...Come on now...Post some more pics of the Beast...name her "Swamp Thang".
Would love to have a compound like you have..but gotta earn it first..just knock some blocks out..it'll fit :D!!!

OK, I'm whipped today.

My brother in-law and I today started the cleaning and
gutting process.
Used chlorine in a pump sprayer and pressure cleaner for 5 hours, just on the outside.
The bilge in the engine compartment was 8 inches deep in mud, leaves, etc.
Found the drain in between the 2 engines. It has not
drained any water in quiet some time. Shucked all cushions
and drop down table. Termites destroyed all the wood.
Rats ate the foam in the cushions and life jackets that
were stowed.
You can see where they tried to eat the teak, but gave up.

Found two things today that surprised me.
In the engine compartment are 2 saddle tanks and one main tank.
Port side of the main tank forward of the engines
is a stainless steel water tank, looks to be 40-50 gallons.

In the cabin right under the fly bridge was a control
that says Marineair, The rascal has an A/C unit under
the helm on the bridge, which looks to be in good shape.
The return and supply is mid ship in the ceiling.

All in all this will be a total gut. The bridge, cap and
deck all need to be re-cored.

Unless someone knows where there is one laying around.

Did you have to rent a dumpster? :D I'll bet that red will shine right up with some of that 3m buffing compound. Keep your momentum going Ken....and it will be done in no time :D

Poly-glow would make that bad boy shine like a new penny. :cool: Are those engines the 250 cid? The 250's were bullet proof engines and I wouldn't be surprised if they could be rebuilt. GM also made a 292 cid straight 6 that came in big trucks and was known to have a lot of torque.
