When I had my twin 115 Suzuki's I tested my performance with one motor. Now this is with stainless 22" props. My best speed with one motor was about 14 knots at 4400 with tabs all the way down. If I dropped down to a 18" I have now doubt speed would have been 25 mph or so at 6k.
Congrats for being a guinea pig. I'm sure MPG at best may be over 4.00. A homeless guy in Bradenton had some kind of flybridge wellcraft or whatever IO. NO IB motor and he ran a 40hp Yamaha on a home made bracket. I swear he was on plane doing about 15 when I saw him. All about propping. |
Propping and motor height
Tim-Nice efficiency and one heck of a contribution by Mercury with that 150. That motor is awesome.
Running over 600 miles last 2 weeks in different sea conditions...it was amazing to trim the boat where the boat has the SC ride on top vs more of the harder landing due to more running surface on the water and improper running angle. I could watch the efficiency improve on the gauge. No spray when trimmed to ride on top! It had that woosh landing! |

We are such prop centric folks here.
I love prop testing. |

Bump for update and thoughts now that you have more hours on it. Any regrets or anything that you would do differently?
Thanks for sharing. |
132 hours on the motor so far. I regret driving from Onset to Chatham and back (in 25+ knot wsw wind) and leaving 10 minutes before the bite turned on. I took a beating coming home across nantucket sound. I also towed a guy from Squibnocket to Quicks Hole (who didn't have seatow) had to cancel dinner reservations. The engine has been awesome and exceeded all my expectations.

I got out in some hurricane swells too, and the engine just chugs along happily.

Great news!
The cost and simplicity makes it a great choice. Thank you for sharing! |
