Ken,
What are your thoughts for power? Looks like the 6`s had good room around them. Lots of old 6bta`s out there for short money. Sleeves and slugs and you would have 20 years worth of power. The extra weight might help too. I know you`re aware of CG issues.

The way I remember it there is four distinct parts or rebuilding a boat.

There is “the fun part” pulling things our, planning in you mind what KenDo will look like, thinking of all the stuff in the re build project you are going to do.

Then comes the “money part” that’s the part you definitely want some fuzzy details on accounting, or really, really good reasons trying to explain how much money and for WHAT to your wife about that *** boat.

Then comes the “hard work part” that’s the part of after you bought all that expensive stuff making it work right, AND making it look as good as a brand new boat only cooler.

And finally the “pleasure using part” that’s the part you Forget all the hard work part, plus Forget all the money spent part, and Remember all the complements you got from your admirers, and how good it feels to be using her the way she was intended.

Now if only the fish were biting.

I'm in the money part right now and with the real estate market in slow motion and the $$ and the work put into getting the pipeline (means $$) of the new company in place I have a hard time justifing even to myself any thing that I could buy to get the project done.
I have had to pass up great deals on trailers, electronics, engines and a million other things needed.

So I am left with going out and sanding which is a pain but it is cheap.
So any local contributions of primer, paints and such are needed and appreciated.

Boy do I want to get to the pleasure using part

Are you going to have them mated with the Yanmar ZT350 sterndrives? Or with Mercruiser drives, or V-drives, or Arnesons, or what?

Those 4LH series diesels were by some accounts the best small mechanical diesels ever made. Sadly, Yanmar no longer produces them due to emissions restrictions. I had a single 4LH-STE in my Fortier 26 and it was an outstanding engine. In my new Fortier 26 I have a 6LP-DTE, which is rated for 250hp and has 6 as opposed to the 4LH's 4 cylinders yet the 4LH pushed an identical boat about 2 knots faster at wide open.

Yanmar does however make a series of smaller, lighter and probably better performing diesels now that would be far better in your proposed I/O setup then the 4LH's would have been.

The 4BY and 6BY engines are both pretty impressive packages. I also woulden't discount the Volvo D-3 series as they too are lightweight high performance diesels.

They are all great, except for the price tags that go with them ! For that reason, maybe look into repowering with a single, yet more powerful engine.

Awesome project you are undertaking. I can't wait for when you start grinding and glassing part !

This weekend little was done other then still
shoveling mulch and cutting and shucking everything.
Both I/O's are out now as well as both fuel tanks.
Another interesting thing was the trim tabs.
The plates sure look like Bennett's of which I
thought they were fixed, upon further inspection
on the inside transom were 12v motors that operated
the tabs.... :eek: Did Bennett start out as Trimatic?

At first I thought they might be an early smart tab, but they have actuators. Cool compass. Man, that`s a lotta mulch! AC in the bridge, how nice. Finally got out Sat for a nice Mutton.

That Marineair control is about the earliest they made. I haven't seen one like that in a very long time.
