The last layers of glass, and first couple passes with filler. I also re-cored the casting platform hatch using some scrap 1/2in penske board.

Then sanded the top of the hatch, removing the nonskid stripes, and then a layer of filler. I have a plan for this hatch and a decal that should be pretty cool when its done.

Other than that, its just fill, sand, fill sand. etc.

Casting platforms first layer of filler. I am not gonig nuts with the body work that will be under the nonskid. You can see the patch on the left side of the picture, it was a really strange crack that had a TON of filler in it, I believe it may have been from when they molded the boat it was much larger than I realized.

And the last layer of matt on the bow.

Heres a few pictures for you guys....

Shot the Cap first, on Friday afternoon. Then Sat afternoon, shot the rest of the inner hull. I am giving it a day or so to setup some more, then ill start installing the 'shiny stuff' and rolling the nonskid on the rails. But its ready to go back on the trailer and have the old motor removed and a good cleaning in the mean time!

I am planning on taping 3/4in of white along the boarder of the floor, thats why the random stopping spot on the transition between floor and wall. The rest of the floor has been left 'rough' and just shot with gellcoat and wax to seal it for the last few months. I have a couple nubs and bumps to hit with a grinder and then it will be a very even nonskid surface.

Looks good keep it up

Wildman 04-22-2012 04:26 PM

Its not perfect (I wasn't really trying for perfection, its a damn fishing boat!) but I want to have people look twice when I tell them its a '72.

NILS 04-22-2012 05:03 PM

The boat looks dam sweet. My 72 still has a long way to go, but every time i fill the hold with fish it is perfect

Here is another update or two.
Most of the nonskid is done (all except for the main deck), I need to do more cleaning before I can do that part. I started with the bow, and worked to the back.
I added a couple 70's stripes on the rails just to break up the big expanse of blue in those areas. I am leaving the stern white for now, I may add more hardware later.

Overall I am very happy with the way its coming out, I can not WAIT to pull it outside and WASH IT DOWN and grab a few more pictures in the sunlight! It is still so dusty, doing the rest of the rigging is going to be just as itchy as the glass work!

jaybap 04-30-2012 02:02 PM

coming out great. i need to redo my non skid next year, and am taking some notes.

Lets start with the last couple weeks. All the plumbing is done with the exception of the tuna tubes which I don't have yet. The fish boxes are both plumbed to a macerator pump for the end of the day wash down. I had to glass a piece of half cut 4in PVC to the inner stern for the tuna tubes line. Also de-rigged the T-top to weld in the radar mount.

Long night yesterday... moving out of my shop in less than 2 weeks, so had to start cleaning up. After that rolled the boat back in, and got down to business. The bars to bolt the radar mount to got welded in last week. Last nights tasks:
Pulled the motor off, re-threaded the T-top canvas, reinstalled the outriggers and all the antenna and installed the new Radar mount. Next up is the T-box rewire and radar install.
