Wow, Strick.

I have not logged on in a bit and am really impressed with your progress. Love the Kingston Grey...excellent color.

Next time I am in NorCal again, I will need to stop by for another visit. You're a boat builder in a land of cowboys!

Lastly, if you head east this summer to visit BigShrimpin, send me a note and we can schedule a tuna trip out of Boston.

Re: I Need A Shrink !

Ed- hope all is well with you. We would love to see you again if you and your wife ever get down this way....but make time for a boat ride next time! I was talking to Bigshrimpin about doing some bass fishing and tuna fishing so maybe I'll get over there.

Lids for the seat boxes.

I had some left over boot stripe paint from the 20sf. Boot stripes are a lot of frigging work. 7 slow and tedious trips around the boat with tape, 2 trips around to sand it, 1 trip around to clean with acetone and then 3 trips around to spray it. Not counting 10 trips around making sure everything looks Ok during the whole process. Pulling off the tape when it's all finished is the only fun part of boot striping

Re: I Need A Shrink !

A few more shots of some of the work accomplished this past weekend.

Cap is bolted and riveted to the hull and liner. I was surprised how nicely they squeezed together. Calking is in place to seal the joint around the boat.

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/352.JPG

The rub rail on this boat is in fairly good shape. Somebody took the time to polish it and then bubble wrap it prior to storing it for 10 years. This boat really wants to go out side so it can show off its new paint job...

Making the parts for the step down. Instead of using wood like the original design I decided to just make some fiberglass inserts that will be screwed down when complete.

I went postal on the tower....started cutting stuff off until I liked the way it looked. I cut off 4 of the rod holders. The visor had a wake board boat look to it..... so off it went. There was a tripod thingy for a mast light that I hacked off as well. I'll grind down the remaining welds and re paint the thing.

Beautiful work, strick. You're an inspiration. I hope to get started on mine soon and this thread will be an excellent road map along the way.

Re: I Need A Shrink !

Moving along VERY SLOWLY but some work has been accomplished over the last couple weeks.

making some lids for the fiberglass step down inserts

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/370.JPG

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/371.JPG

A layer of 1708 goes over the top of this

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/372.JPG

The inside of the box has core cell sides and a 1" ledger and the lids are then glassed to the box

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/374.JPG

Anchor locker bulk head is screwed in place. This will get trimmed out later on.

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/373.JPG

Window frames and tower have been sanded and primed with Awlgrip 545 primer...I have both gray and white primer in the shop.

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/378.JPG

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/379.JPG

Step down inserts are primed and faired with "quick fair" Only two sides will be visible the top and the side that
faces the walk way into the cabin. These little boxes are strong. They are made to stand on when underway. I will
have some kind of access hatch or deck plate to get to the inside so they can be screwed down and have storage inside.

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/380.JPG

Spraying Awlgrip paint. The Tower was a pain in the rear to spray...now I know why they invented powder coating.

Still waiting on my fuel tanks to be finished...the trailer is getting new surge brakes/master cylinder and receiver. Once the trailer is back I'm going to give it a quick coat of paint and new bunks lights etc....anyone got any idea what kind of paint to use on a steel trailer? The paint that is on it is in good shape but has faded.

We took a little trip last weekend up the Mendocino coast and spent the night at Timber cove Lodge. Some photos of
the area. I got in trouble when we got home because I had the camera set for low resolution pictures (needed for internet posting) and forgot to change it while we were there. The photos don't do justice to the beauty of the
Mendocino coast.

Lots of sheep on the ocean on Saturday. Sunday was a lot better.

On the way back home we stopped at the marina in Bodega bay... I like to check out the boats. We saw the usual west
coast stuff...

A commercial salmon boat

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/388.JPG

A Farallon

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/389.JPG

An ugly Ospray with a big flat butt

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/390.JPG

A Raddon craft

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/391.JPG

A Davis

California fishermans answer to the Live well...two garbage cans

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/393.JPG

We were about done looking at boats and walking back to the truck when something familiar caught my eye across the marina.

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/394.JPG

This boat was not here last year...I would have saw it. I like my tower better.

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/395.JPG

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/396.JPG

Still has the original seats

http://www.casdvm.com/photos/25%232internet/397.JPG

Her name was missing off her sides and the old gal sat quietly at rest as if she had nothing to prove to her younger and larger stable mates.

I've only been once. This trip left me thinking that I really need to get into that. Hard to beat Abalone as table fare. There were lots of rock pickers...and lots of wardens roaming about.

I was viewing you project blog the other day. That's gonna be a cool little boat when it's all finished. I see you have hired on Finseeker as a consultant :D

Chuck is a great guy. We went ab diving last week after salmon fishing.

If you ever want to give ab diving a try, let me know.
There's a reason I ordered such a huge dive platform!!!

I love the mellow paint scheme of this boat.
