Old Goat - 1978 - 20 - CC -470 Merc - La.

Special order, picked up Homestead, Fl labor day weekend 1978.

Not mine anymore, sold in 1995, but my son found it today, For Sale.

Bushwacker 06-24-2012 10:48 PM

Welcome to the site Old Goat! That's one hell of a swim platform! Any idea what they're asking for that boat now? Looks to be in pretty decent shape! How did you like that 470 Mercruiser I/O?

I had that built in 1980 as a Shrimping platform. Cull box was on the motor cover, that ladder was added after I sold it. That welder was some kinda good, argued with me for days that it wouldn't work. Learned him a thing or two. 470 worked OK for me, with the trim tabs it was a pretty darn good ski boat also.

Son said he would find out about the asking price and let me know. I just know I ain't buying it back!

Bushwacker 06-26-2012 08:22 PM

Old Goat, check your email. Denny

Thank you VERY much Denny.

I guess I should go ahead and introduce myself now. My name is Steven and I am Old Goat's youngest son.

Since I first went to look at this boat on Sunday, I have stopped by to look at it every day. Today, the owner met me there and let me hear it run in the parking lot. It runs just as smooth as I remember from when I was younger. Needless to say, I will be stopping at the bank tomorrow for lunch to pull some cash out, and after I get off of work, I will be a first time SeaCraft owner. I agreed to pay $500 more than the limit my wife and I set before I ever talked to the owner, but it does come with another used MerCruiser 470 that was pulled out of another running but hull-damaged boat (not a SeaCraft). I figured that it was worth it especially since there is $1000 of aluminum hanging off of the back of it.:D

I plan on doing a few maintenance items since it hasn't touched the water in over a year, and only running it in inland fresh water areas until I feel completely comfortable with it. Then I will finally be able to take my wife fishing in the Gulf of Mexico like we did when I was younger... in the same boat.

I am going to try and not spend all of my money doing a complete restoration on it for a while, as I am currently rebuilding a 1970 Chevrolet C-10, along with remodeling my kitchen. It's funny that 4 days ago, I had absolutely no intentions of owning a boat, and less than a week later here I am.:p

Mikem8560 06-27-2012 12:17 AM

What better a new owner ! Congrats! got to be some great memories

Old Goat 06-27-2012 07:44 AM

All I can say is WOW.

Little did I ever expect to see my 34 year old dream boat again, let alone have my son buy it. I tried my best to talk Steven out of it, you know the saying about a hole in the water! It would not sway him in any way. Sounds like the other old saying about the chip off the block.

Only thing left to do is to dust off the brain cells and help get this "Classy Lady" back to her full glory!

Paul Harvey wants me to tell the rest of the story now, I had Steve and his older sister Dawn together on the phone last night so we could break the news to her about this. Her first comment to this was for her to yell at her husband to ask if she could go half on the price! I guess I must have raised some crazy children! Makes one proud and worry at the same time.

Congratulations Steve.

Looks like you need to start a new thread on here Steve.

Getting a bit off topic on this one.

You're going to need some help from these guys.

New to the forum but not new to classic seacrafts -grew up fishing on a 1977 Sceptre that my dad owned from the early 80s until 2004...he bought it back in 2009 and we restored it together - 1977 Sceptre 23, 2012 Yamaha F250..dont have any pics handy, as the boat is in Daytona Beach and I am in Tampa for school but it has fresh white gel coat with a black boot stripe.

I have a 1975 18' SeaCraft with a 90hp Tohatsu.

I love it!!! I was really suprise the old school 2 stroke would push this boat as well as it does. Planes quickly, runs ups to 33 mph and gets darn good fuel economy. Also impressed with how well the hull handles moderate wind chop. 18 SC is the biggest little boat around.

Weather permitting, I will be expanding the fleet this week by 24 feet and 10 inches. If the I/O starts and it passes survey.

Have had no luck for 4 weeks running. Don't want to jinx it.

Hmmmm. 24'-10"? You wish to join the chosen few.

Check the bulkheads if you can get to them. They are key to the boat's structural integrity. The one in front of the fuel tank compartment is difficult to get to unless there's a hatch in the cabin deck.

Good luck with the purchase.

cdavisdb 02-01-2013 09:06 AM

Ditto on Blue Heron. Hope you get it; it is an astonishing a sea boat.

Pictures, Pictures!

Here goes nothing. Going to un-winterize an engine, run it, re winterize it and haul it. Or not. Either way, it will be an experience.

Did I mention the predicted high temp for today is 34 degrees? I think we are going to run bath water thru it :)

Is this one of the red hulls? There are/were at least two like that in your general area.

FishStretcher 02-02-2013 07:53 PM

jinxed:mad:. Trailer carnage on a 7200 lb trailer- it has almost no margin, so messing around. Will pickup after it will roll. I DO have a deposit on it.
The EFI kicks serious butt, though!:D. This one isn't red- it is white.

Where is the HIN on a 1971 24' 10" er? I can't search for words that short or common. "Serial #" started with MS?

It won't have one. HINs weren't required until '72 or '73. My '72 doesn't have one. There should be a foil manufacturer's sticker on the inner liner just forward of the companion seat if it's still there. The SN on the sticker won't be in the same format as a HIN.

Make it easy on yourself and call it a 25'. ;) That serial # starting with MS is probably on the title, right? When there is no HIN, Mass. uses MSZ followed by 9 digits as a serial # for titling purposes. But as Blue Heron notes, pre-'73 there won't be a HIN other than what might be on the spec plate/sticker.

Just curious where you found this Seafari?? I know of a white one that was in Mattapoisett for a number of years then it disappeared a couple years ago.
