New to the site and new to Sea Craft. Just traded for a 69 20' CC. Looking at a restore but can't go crazy on $$. Thinking a 175 Opti would be best power.

deadrise - 1978 20 sceptre(minus windshield, gas tank, chairs, backsplash panel) with a 9.9 yamaha 2 stroke and a very long 15 foot steering pole extension. I hope to repower with a Mercury bridgeport(with a good life insurance policy) someday but it's plenty fast now so I'm in no hurry. Named: "Manatee Killa" I hope to have some photos soon of the new layout so standby.

Sweet. Nothing I love better than a Seacraft that has been severed modified, only to be stripped down like a $3.00 48 year old dancer with the goal of total catholic hullification towards a chastitized rebirth. Love to see photos before and after. Confessions of a Seacraft zelout. Stay tuned.

Yep, I had a 175 envirude on my mine back in the day and it was perfect in every way. And 25 years later I'm back refurbishing the same hull. Repowering: That's what I'm doing now. 175 optimax new if I can get financing. Otherwise it's Yamaha 200 hp small block 1999 hdpi with rebuild power head. The thing is, if you go higher than 150 hp you can't use a manual steering(atleast not the cheaper ones anyway) which sucks cause then you have to bone up for a power steering system which I believe sucks horsepower off the motor and juice off the battery/motor electronics.
I prefer 2 strokes on these older hulls handsdown.

I bought a 1999 SeaCraft23. I am very happy w it. There are many modern upgrades, like an efficient interior, no wood, a higher transom to accept modern outboards. It came w an F250 w 220 hrs and a trailer, electronics, and all factory options for much less than $30,000. I would look for a good modern hull that does not need work.
