In this installation, the transducer is bonded to the inside of the hull with epoxy. Ideally, the transducer is placed in the aft third of the hull close to the centerline. The signal "shoots through" the hull with some loss of signal strength. This installation must be made in an area of the hull that is made from solid fiberglass, with no air bubbles or separated layers. If the hull is of multi-layer or "sandwich" construction, you will have to remove the inner layer of fiberglass and the wood or foam core to expose the outer layer of the hull. This type of mount is recommended only with 192 or 200 kHz transducers."

ERic, I have a Lowrance X55. Lowrance sells a "hockey puck" transducer,it's shaped like a puck. I was having trouble getting good readings at cruising speed, so the local marine electronic shop suggested I try shooting through the hull. The thing to do is to have the boat in the water and move the transducer around to find a good spot. Mine is about 10" port of the center line,about 3 ft. forward of the transom. You don't want to shoot through the keel. When you locate your best spot, put down a good spooge of 4200 and seat your transducer firmly. Job done.Yeah it's seated on an angle, but so what,the boat rocks anyhow.

Worked on the boat this weekend and took measurements of my transducer location-9 inches port of centerline, 21 inches forward of transom,just forward of where the baitwell used to be.

I HAVE USED THROUGH HULL AND TRANSOM MOUNTS. THE NEW TRANSOM MOUNTS ARE VERY GOOD. I HAVE USED 5200 TO PLACE THE TRANSDUCER TO SHOOT THROUGH THE HULL, MAKE SURE YOU GET ALL AIR BUBBLES OUT OF THE GELL.

I also have mine mounted inside and shooting through the hull. I used Marine-Tex to epoxy it to the inside hull in the bilge, just off center by 4" to 5", working out all the air as it sets. I also maintained a horizontal attitude as it set so it can shoot straight down. I can run at any speed with a great reading. I did succumb to mounting the temperature and speed indicator on the transom reluctantly. It's amazing compared to the GPS how accurate it is.

Eric, like the other guys posted make sure you seat the ducer down good. I'd stay away from 5200 or any other semi permanent goop for this application. I'm on my second unit installed this way I used 4200 and the first ducer stayed in place for 4 years-had to cut it loose.The measurements are just a starting point, try it out on the water before you do the install.
