John, I know it does sound high, if you can find out where he bought it at I know theirs a place in Lauderdale that used to sell Evinrudes back in the OMC days at reasonable prices, but I can remember their name.As far as Merc its a matter of opinion I work with guys that would not own anything but a Merc. I Heard a while back that they were having problems with the Optis but dont know if they've been corrected.RS.

That 250 Merc is a good engine but one thirsty SOB. How much Exxon stock do you own? I would get the Ficht because I have heard from every mechanic, every magazine, every website that they are bulletproof. If not do you think they would be offering a 7 year warranty? Warranty is what put OMC under, Bomb aint gonna make the same mistake.

Being, the way the economy is and Bombardier trying to get back in the market do you all think this promotion of the rebate or 7 year warranty will be offerd againg this year. Joe, you being a dealer might have an answer to this. I see Merc is offering a 5 year warranty now. I just think that Bombardier would have to do this again?

From what I understand the Mercury warry 5 years is a special also that will be ending around the same time. I could be wrong. I would like to see them offer this again. It has help us out with selling there engines.

Re: Who makes a better outboard?

You guys may actually get a chance to see the promotions extended. It is all going to depend on our wonderful economy, which in turn is depending on our president and if we actually go to war or not. All of this is what is effecting the wonderful stock market right now, Dow almost dropped to the 7000 mark. I could go on but I am sure you can get the picture. With all of the auto manufacturers offering up the zero interest on some of their models, more following every day, it makes sense that the outboard manufacturers are having a hard sell of their products as well, hence the extended warr being offered by them. If business is bad, you can bet they will be offering some incentives when these run out so, if you can, save your pennies now because if the economy does get worse and you have trhe cash to spend, it will be worth your while to do it!

Hi Guys-

For what it's worth, I paid $12,100 for a 2003 Evinrude Ficht 255hp. That was before we picked a prop and it was mounted, just the power alone. i bought from Ship Shpos in So. Yarmouth, MA at www.shipshops.com They treated me great.

It has been a good engine for me so far, 40 hours, and I would be happy to talk with anyone directly at: ggibbons@attbi.com

(soon to be comcast.com!!!!! I HATE THAT!!!!! EEERRRGGG!!!!)

I think they have a winner on their hands and I don't regret going DI two verus 4 at all
