Maybe I'm wrong but I think they actually keep the hull dry. Don't get me wrong, the bilge always stays wet but if you look at the vent channels they send an air flow directly to the tops of the box stringers and keep them dry. They also provide a place for the condensation to evaporate on hot days. If they are closed off theres no escape for the water and the hull turns into a steam chamber, at least here in south Fl

After I filled in my four vents on the sides of the hull I did add one vent directly above the tank under the center console where the hoses attack to the tank no water gets in but is great to access those connections if I ever need to.

I've seen the vents installed toward the bow and others facing the stern. Seems to me that it makes sense to face them to the stern, despite the fact that you won't get as much ventilation, you may not get as much water in the bilge.

Thoughts??

I faced mine toward the stern - not sure if it is necessary, but that seemed like the logical way to install them. I don't think you really need to force air in there.

IF YOU FACE THEM FORWARD YOU WOULD SCOOP A LOT OF WATER INTO THEM WILE YOU ARE RUNNING INTO HEAVY SEAS. LIKE HAVING A HOSE SHOOTING INTO THE BOAT.
