I have an 87' 23 that had been sunk by previous owner when dead batteries led to bilge pump failure. The boat was and still is totally sound, and was aquired for 4000 Dollars 5 years ago. Don't really know how our prices here in Va. stack up with yours, but hopefully it'll give you a direct comparision to go by.

Thanks for the info hopefully I can get the owner to come down to that price range after the survey is completed. Would love to see some pictures of your boat.This model has alot of teak ( hatches & trim)

I bought a sunk '85 last year that was in questionable shape. Cracks in the deck along the gunnels. Soft deck in spots. Wiring that was in bad shape, wet stringers, etc. etc. I wound up replacing every removable part from the stringers up. I bought the hull for 5 K and spent twice that in all the new material. I now have a boat that I'm very happy with. My advise is to assume the worst, all work will take twice as long as you may estimate and then you will not be disapointed. Good luck. Dink

let us know how the survey turns out, I'm interested in hearing the results to such a similar case as mine. My boat has a good amount of teak as well, the rod holders under the gunnels, the trim around the instruments and the around the console door, and the splashwell door. I replaced the trim around the two back hatches w/ carbon covered with white gelcoat to better withstand the weathering with less maintanence.

The survey was completed this AM and went as follows.
The exterior finish is faded but the hull is sound and according to the moisture test it's dry as a bone. The transom had some moisture but was told it was within acceptable limits. Advised me to take some core samples to determine the extent of the moisture.The deck form front of the T top back is shot , high moisture content and sounded very dull when tapped with the mallet. One stringer was high in moisture and had some delamination. Hydrolics for the trim tabs didn't work.Intake line for fuel was bad and needs replacing.Steering needs work . T top cover has holes and needs replaceing. Compass is hardly visible . The owner told me the boat was covered for the past two years the guy who owns the place where he is storing it says it was never covered even in winter.Some of the so called new wireing especially aroud the bilge pump is sub standard and corroded.I'm sure there are things i'm forgetting but will be recieveing a detailed report on the condition and a value estimate for comparably equiped boat in good condition to see if the cost of repairs falls within those limits.Also giving me a CD of all the pictures he took during the survey. The condition of the gas tank could not be determined but advised me to have it examined if I do the deck repair. Gas cap on the boat was left open.
My first thought was that anybody who would treat a boat with such disregaurd dosen't deserve to own one.I think my offer price will be around 3000.00. I have the same exact opinion as Capt. Chuck. Having purchased an older SeaCraft that needs work, Finster's solid deck and transom (plus the $3k hermco bracket), sounds like a very good deal.

I wish! That baby was almost 4k by the time I had it shipped.

Thanks guys for plugging my boat, but if it doesn't sell I'm not going to loose sleep. It will mean however that I will have to finish it it someday.... [img]/images/graemlins/crazy.gif[/img]
