Just an added thought, being an old fart, I still keep a chart up on the dash, and pretty much just use the gps to confirm location, so I haven't really dived into all the deeper functions that I guess you can get out of these things.

Also, I guess I do like having 2 seperate units, and having both the gps screen and ff screen, being on full time, and not reduced in the split screen view, or switching back and forth.

Bill, you're correct about the Lowrance units. Last year my father bought one of their color chartplotters and used only the base map. By the end of the season he was complaining about the lack of detail. I had to give him the "I told you so", seeing as I kept trying to convince him to buy a chip since day 1.

Well here I sit, reading instructions to install my cheap Eagle 168 FF on my 15 Whaler. Part I picked it up for me last Christmas. Really wnted to go with a Garmin plotter/FF to switch between boats but the season is approaching. Funny thing is I'll probably travel outside the local area with Whaler before SeaCraft. I really don't want to add two screws in transom for ducer. Anyone ever 52/4200 a small piece of starboard/cutting board to the transom, then screwing into that? Guess I'll still have to screw a cable tie into the transom above the ducer, so when adhesive gives (of course at full throttle) it won't whack me over the head. Just trying to keep this old hull dry as long as I can. Thanks. Part II.

You don't have to screw them. You can use these self stick cable tie mounts. When I had a transom mount ducer they lated for years..... :cool:

Capt. Chuck those sound really cool. Though the photo does not do them justice.?. Boaters world, West Marine? And if they are adhesive, am I not so far off with the 4200 idea for the cutting board? Whatja think? Thanks. Vezo.

Ace, Home Depot or any Electrical Supply carry them.

I don't think 4200/5200 will stick to starboard. These cable holders are very inconspicuous, clear and approx 1/2" x 1/2"

I think it's dangerous. Starboard and similar cautions against using 5200/4200 as a glue. It might work for a while, then suddenly when going 40mph the assembly comes unglued and from the pressure of the water swings into the cockpit, smashing into the deck. :eek:

Hopefully nobody will be hit. Those little stick on cable tie points aren't going to help much.

Besides, once you get the trim tabs on that boat, a few extra screws won't hurt a bit. ;)

They are designed to hold the cable in place only! NOT secure the transduces to the transom !

Roger, nice to hear from you, as well as the dig about the trim tabs! When I catch up to you there, you'll be one step ahead of me with a bow thruster! How are you?

I understand that, but the screw in cable holders stay put in that situation, keeping the free swinging cable short, causing the the transducer to simply smash into the motor well.

I had a similar incident. The transducer broke off it's mount and the cable was not secured. It came a few feet into the cockpit. What a surprise. :eek:

While I did not crap my pants, I confess that I checked to make sure. :D
