Transom needs inspection, it appears solid but it has the wood core and has been around for a while in the water.

Can anyone give me a ballpark idea of what it would cost if examination proved that in fact the transom did need replacement? I am in Boston and am always flirting on and off with getting a boat. This one seems to have very good mojo and the price is appealing. Thanks and tight lines, Bob

bigbfitz,

I'm in MA and am in the middle of redoing the transom on my 1976, 20' SF right now. I figure it will cost me about $500-$600 in materials if I use epoxy and plywood, add another $300 +/- if I use a composite material. Just for reference, I called a Boston area firm that restores a lot of SeaCrafts and, sight unseen, they suggested I budget $3,500 to have them do the work. While I haven't checked, I'd guess there are a lot of options fall between that budget estimate and my estimated cost (just materials).

dcobbett, thanks that is just the kind of info I am interested in. I need to do some checking with the Minister of Finances at my house, (lets hope she's in a good mood) but this seems like a great deal. Bob

Sounds like the boat I'm looking for but you are in MA (I think) and I am in SC! Is it still for sale?

Sonny,
You are quite correct, the boat is in MA. And, she is still for sale. If there was something I could do to teleport the boat.....

MASSBASS,

Is the boat still for sale? I can see the foam in the water, you must be neer the Cape. I'm making a trip to Nauset Inlet(Orleans,MA) this weekend and want to look at your boat. Thanks

Phil

Yes Phil, she is still for sale. Actually we are on the North Shore, closer to the NH boarder. Its not exactly a direct line to the cape from Worcester, but it's worth the dive. Let me know if you have any questions.

I've had 2 people look at the boat, both had similar comments. The transom needs replacement. The hull is in good condition otherwise and is a great candidate for a project. The other comment is the motor corrosion is serious and the motor should be replaced. Can’t get much more honest than that. Given this I will reduce the again to $3,500 or BO. The boat is in Massachusetts on the north shore.
