2ntow Let me make a suggestion before you paint that bracket. I did this to mine. Same bracket with a "V" bottom.

Where the gusset's are that weld into the top of the platform There are 3 of them.

Drill a 1/4in hole thru them in the tight corner. This will not effect the strength at all. It will act like a Limber hole.
When you wash the boat or just sitting in the rain, water will drain and not collect dirt and soap when you wash the boat there. On the center gusset, you will not be able to get the drill motor in the right spot. Just drill part way thru each side at a slight angle. Run a chamfer bit on each side of the hole's after they are drilled.

I hate water that will not drain and collect's dirt. This work's Very well.

Thanks, Warthog. I will definitely do that to mine. Not to derail this thread, but what did you use to finish your bracket. I am seriously considering going the poweder coat route. Do you see any problems with this, or would I be better going the zinc phospate primer, then topcoat with a 2 part polyurethane?

1st I had the bare alum sandblasted to get the best etch on the metal. Then I used Deft waterbased epoxy primer.
This is a primer that is used on military fighter aircraft on the landing gear that catch's hell and hold's up VERY well.
Then it got taped and 2 toned with Awlgrip. Then I taped somemore and put the Durabak nonskid on the top to make it 3 toned.
