The 100 grit is to smooth out inperfections and give a coarse surface for Awlgrip primer to bond.

If your going to spray without primeing just use 220 grit sand paper,wipe down and spray.

Dont you have to prime over going over gelcote or one part paints? You dont have to if your going over two part paints or primers - right?

Ive read the directions ten times but its alot clearer from the glass - man!

If the surface you are going to paint on is flawless no pinholes, no excessive oxidation, no cracks just clean discolored gelcoat even if it has scratches you can fill the scratches and paint over without priming, but you still will need three coats of paint just like painting over primer. The pourpose of the primer is just not for the paint to stick to hull it also provides a built up uniform surface that actualy helps bring out the inperfections in the hull, I use Awlgrip almost on a daily basis,and I always primer any surface first, but if your on a tight budget it can be done. As said above. Awlgrip is expensive stuff and a pain in the azz to strip off and do over. Spend the extra $200 and buy some 545 primer. You'll be glad you did.
