I dont think that in the center is a stringer??? Mine has what looks to be the same as yours and it is a half peice of pvc glassed over for drainage purposes! I may be wrong??

well your right, my terminology is a little off. This appears to be more like a 2x4 that has been glassed over, or used as a mold. There is no curvature to it. It is definetly draining h2o though, I wonder how hard it would be to replace? It is not hollow though, it is either wood of foam that came out on my drill bit.

My boat is a 1975 sf. I have the glassed over 2x4 as a center stringer. I was suprised to find that it was dry at the transom. I didn't cut up the floor or fuel tank bottom so I'm not sure about the rest of it. I'm really not sure about replacing it if its wet. I would think that even if it is a little wet, you would still have the glass for strength. On the other hand, you have the whole thing exposed, so it would not be that difficult to replace.

so much for saving the transom. Glad I did this now.

Looks like it is coming apart for me, hopefully will be able to save it and use as a template. I had to stop and pick up the Kid-o so it looks pretty sloppy right now, should be able to get it out, cleanup and straighten some cuts today.

That's where the inlet/outlet was for the baitwell under port seat and it is a potental transom soaker. I sealed mine years ago and original transom is still solid.

thanks for the reply, that makes sense, I think. My transom is soaked and it hasnt seen water in 3 months. I was hoping to baby it out to use as a template, but am about to give up on this. Not a very good pic but the entire port side is mush.

Hard to get much done with only an hour or two a day. I think I am about to "call in dead", and get some work done.

Re: 72 20ft started part II

So, what now. the wood seems as if it is molded into the glass and won't come out quietly or peacefully. Would it just be easier and save time by cutting the entire outer skin and starting over.
I could use some help from the Gods here, if any want to weigh in.
