Re: Gas tank installation question

I couldn't remember the link
http://www.yachtsurvey.com/fueltank.htm
But that was pretty much how I installed mine.
My strips where on 16" instead of 12" centers but my
tank was a .125 vs the usual .090 so I felt it was strong enought. Also, it is sitting on a very solid 3/4" floor so there will not be much give in it.

Re: Gas tank installation question

One thing they don't really mention in that article is it is critical that the deck be flat, and that the gas tank is evenly supported on it.

Re: Gas tank installation question

Blitz, I recently replaced an aluminum tank in my 18'CC w/ a 40 gal poly tank. I'll try to forward pictures. Original tank wasd foamed in (bad idea), removed all foam, cleaned and painted hull interior, made a support rack to evenly distribute weight of the tank against the hull using epoxy coated wood forms and vinyl stringers. Set in new tank and secured to hull stringers. So far so good, no movement, no leaks, plenty of air circulation. A worthwhile project.

What year is your 18? Mines a 76. The tank sets in a box where yours is exposed to the bildge. Didn't know there was a difference in the 18's. Anyone have any info as to why and when the changes?

Re: Gas tank installation question

My 18 is an '83. As you can see the old al tank was foamed in w/ no platform to support it, just the foam on the bottom and sides, and a couple screws into the stringers.

How its done

It takes awhile to get the hang of posting pictures.

I went to your http://s276.photobucket.com/albums/kk31/LTsHoney

Once I was in there I clicked on the Share Url...this automatically copies it.

Then I came back and replied to your message. Clicked on url did a paste(ctrl V) of your http: That should bring up something that says web page. Cleared that out and typed in a description and there it is. If you only want one picture than do the same except use image.

Hope this helps. ;)
