It looks great, I do notice the Red gel coat sure holds up better up north - Fl sun just kills it

thanks all,for the encouraging words, and also to all of you for so much good info and tips on the how to's of Seacraft restoration.
I'm very happy with my progress so far,but it still pales in comparison to some of the amazing work that I've seen by many on this site.
I could only wish to achieve the amazing work done by guys like Strick, and Bonefish.

Abl,as for the bad spots in the deck floor,I cut the top skin out,and removed the rotted core, and replaced it with marine plywood, and glassed over it with some 1708 and 12oz mat.
I made the decision to not keep the original deck pattern. It would have just required too much labor to have it look good,so I ended up grinding down the raised pattern of the original deck to a flush finish.

I did the tan non skid with a coat of unwaxed gelcoat tinted to the tan color, and thickened with cabosil to a consistency of ketchup.
I rolled it with a 3/8"nap roller, which left a very nice stippled non skid.

Followed it up with a second coat of "waxed gel coat mixed the same way.
At first it was a bit too aggressive,so i took a dry foam roller, and just rolled it over the wet finish with no pressure. It made for a perfect non skid.

Thx for the info. I want to figure out how to gelcoat it all while keeping the original design. I figure there must be procees - just haven't thought of it yet.

I'll be adding sand or Griptex to the gelcoat...

Keep up the great work !

Abl,Originally,I was going to gel the whole thing with an off white gel coat, then mask off all the 1/2"grooves between the original non skid strips, and either roll a coat or two of thickened gel or a gel with an additive on those strips.
Then peel off the masking in between, that would have kept the factory original look.
I also thought about doing it as above, only with the two part urethane and Griptex.
In the end, after i had to recore a few areas in the deck,it would have been much more work to get it perfect.I just felt that this would be the best for my use.
With salmon blood and slime on the floor,i wanted something that i could just scrub and hose down, without having to worry about it looking perfect all the time.

Hi John

“FANTASTIC”

I remember looking at your boat when you first got it and thinking the old owner must have used the boat as a garbage bin. Well you did a lot move than put lipstick on a pig. This old gal got a face lift some liposuction and a breast augmentation done + spent a year in the spa. Again

What I find interesting is that my 21 was found in Green Bay on Lake Michigan and the previous owner fished the hell out of it. There must of been 6 down rigger set ups on it. The Seacrafts must like that steep chop and short wave length that builds up on that open water. :D
