Re: outriggers
are outriggers still for sale

Re: outriggers
Heres a link on how to set them up - I only had one set of clips on mine usually, to much hassle clearing lines IMHO.

Re: outriggers
since we are on the outrigger subject.... I have not mounted mine yet, I have the Sport Slam Bases
http://tacomarine.com/cgi-bin/ccp51/...cat_top_mounts should I put them on the t-top or Gunnel mount them. I worry about the stress on the t-top I have had to have tops re welded and so have my friends. I run boats pretty hard. What are the pros and cons and will bait performance be affected by the higher or lower angle of attack? |
Re: outriggers
When I still had my Mako, I had Taco grand slam outriggers mounted on the t-top. I had Taco's extruded aluminum mounting plate welded to the t-top. They worked okay, but would often fall down in rough water. I heard the Lee's outriggers are designed better and don't fall down as easily...

Re: outriggers
Mount them on top, rig your halyards to be moved to the gunnels when fishing and moved back up to the top when not. The extra height from the T-top is beneficial when pulling baits meant to be skipped.

Re: outriggers
I can see advantages to both, mine were in the gunnel and I had no problems skipping baits but they can be in the way - I fished a bost with them up top and it was a real pain for us vertically challeged.

Re: outriggers
I have mine mounted on gunnels but yet to try them. I can already see them ripping out if I encounter rough seas...even with my plywood and aluminum backing plates!!!. I agree being up top is a challenge especially if you dont have the top gun type set up etc where you can pivot from a standing position.... instead of having to stand on gunnel and reaching up high over t- top etc.

Re: outriggers
The top gun style, really suck, my friend has had all kinds of trouble, the pins, fall out, the collars unscrew and strip. There are some design issues with those. I made it a point to get Taco but a different style.
