I've opened far too many unflushed motors and seen the ill effects

Maybe I should say if you use the motor all the time.
The reason for my comment was this. My brother in law who owns and runs a OB repair shop (over 15 years) in SW FL. has always said the problem is not the salt it is the lack of running them. If you run them...no need to flush. ... The guy that comes down for the winter runs his boat a few times and then leaves without flushing is the one with problems.

I will agree with that absolutely. When I run my boat every day during my annual 10 days in the Keys, I don't flush the motor until the day I haul it out to go home.

The worst thing you can do to an outboard motor is not run it regularly.

I had a 2 stoke 55 suzuki for 12 yrs, I would run it in a tub to flush and had good success. I did not change the water after every flush, maybe every third or fourth flush the oil residue would stay in the tub and and I would run the motor right in the oil water solution. I had some of the longest running water pumps I have ever had
changed twice in 12yrs. always ran strong, the impellers that came out after 6 yrs looked brand new

my feelings are that the oil and exhaust waste in the tub lubricates the inside of the cooling system and kept everything in top shape. good luck

Fr. Frank - that goes for the whole boat as well...
