Re: TRAILER QUESTIONS

I have a Hi-Tech on order so I should be able to give an opinion in a few weeks.

No brakes for me. Brought the boat back to NJ from SC without them with no issues. Plus I live 2 blocks from the ramp ;)

Re: TRAILER QUESTIONS

Fred, call Steve @ East Coast Trailers up here in Orlando.
I know it would be a drive but he has the best prices on aluminum trailers.
407-178-0066
I got a single axle, no brakes for my 18 from him with all SS hardware, LED lights, torsion axle, the works for less that $2K
Tell him Steve (SC53) sent you.

Re: TRAILER QUESTIONS

If St. Pete is closer, Owens and Sons. www.slide-on.com. 727 323 1088 or 0861. Speak to Jeff. His sister Kim should answer the phone. I have a 2005, and a 2006 for each of my Whalers. 2007 my brother bought a single axle for his 18 SeaCraft. 2008 my neighbor bought one for 16 Carolina Skiff. Awesome to deal with and priced right. Very familiar with SeaCraft hulls. Do your research then call Jeff. Good Luck. Part II.

Re: TRAILER QUESTIONS

Both East Coast and Owens and sons were very helpful when I was shopping for a trailer 2 years ago. I ended up with a trailer from Owens and Sons, the traler was shipped to Massachusetts and it fit PERFECTLY! It's a double axle with no breaks, (not required in Mass). I love the bunk trailer and I have had zero maintenance issues.

Re: TRAILER QUESTIONS

Well..I will have to check out East Coast and Owens and Sons..seems to be the concensus. I called EZ LOADER...quoted 2 axle without brakes but with guide poles and stainless hardware with leaf springs :( for $2400. Of course when you ask for price for torsion it jumps price back up to 2800!!! and brakes up to $3000..Will def. call EAST COAST AND OWENS and SONS. Hopefully can beat it..
Thanks all for your help...

Re: TRAILER QUESTIONS

Fred, Owens and Sons custom builds every trailer. It's not like locating something close to your spec.s or needs. You spec it and Jeff builds it. Get prices of aluminum, properly sized (two) torsion axles, stainless steel hardware, LED submersible lights, or mounted above on the Guide Ons, type of rims and tires, mounted spare, (option for spare already mounted on proper size replacement hub, and locked to the spare mount), and any other options you may need, then call Jeff. You'll be very happy you did.

He even uses Heavy Guage Extension cord for his lights, not the common crap four colored wire until you get to the tongue. My only suggestion: If not going in a garage, consider asking for a longer tongue. I need it here, there you may not. Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me for my number. Michael.

Re: TRAILER QUESTIONS

I suggest single-axle with 5K weight rating. I had a single axle EZ loader with a 5200 lb axle rating rating before my current trailer, but you have to use ST225x75-R15T tires (2800 lb rating ea.) which used to cost about $150 each. Single axles tow easier, maneuver easier, and cost less at toll booths

Re: TRAILER QUESTIONS

I received my new Hi Tech marine trailer yesterday and after a few adjustments, have the SC sitting nicely on it. I am very pleased with it so far, just wish us northern folks didn't need to have trailers shipped all the way from Florida if we want an aluminum one.

I'll be in Middletown/Fair Haven on 09-07-09. Would have made a nice trade for a day on the water. Sounds like you're happy. Part II.

That would have been a good idea. I ordered through a dealer in VA and met for delivery yesterday morning outside of Philly. Should be getting back into the stripers or maybe some bluefin around that time hopefully...
