Re: Fuel filler hose replacement

MARLIN...I did not have any foam around the fuel filler tube. Just the 4 bolts holding the filler tube in. Those were difficult to get at but I was able to remove them. I just undid those 4 bolts and pulled the filler tube up from the top of the gunwale. The boat is a 1973 CC.

Where did you cut your 4" diam. port. Upper or lower area?

Sceptre

Your conduit that runs from the deck to the gunwale is similar to mine with the exception that your gunwale cap extends down further than mine. At the top inside left of that conduit I have a hole that is just a little wider than the vent tubing. The vent tubing comes out there and makes a 90 degree turn and connects to the vent, (overflow fitting), on the side of the boat.

Job done. Brought the hose up from the tank with tie wraps connecting both inch and one half hoses. Secret....spray lots of SILICONE spray on the hoses, near the connection. Slipped right on through up to the fill port on the gunwale.
Next, I have to do the vent hose.

Just don't get any Silicone on any primed surfaces waiting for paint.... :( Fisheyes

Nothing to paint. The hoses are inside a conduit. ;)

Re: Fuel filler hose replacement

When I replaced the fill and vent hoses on my Tsunami,I figured that it would be a nightmare.
The opposite was true. After I pulled the hatch cover, cleaned, inspected, and re-installed the tank,it was just a matter of connecting the new hoses to the old, with a a piece of tube and some hose clamps, and pulling them through.

I removed the fill port, and pulled the old hose, and new hose out from the tank, under the deck, and up the pillar,to the gunwale as one piece.Discarded the old hose, cut the new hose to length, and attached it to the fill port, and tank and re-installed it.Did the same with the vent hose.
Other than a little bit of a PIA getting at the screws,it was pretty easy.

You didn't have to cut a hole in the pillar to install / gain access to change out the VENT TUBE??

Nope, the vent went out pretty high.I was able to get to it,by reaching up under the gunwale, just to the front of the pillar a little bit.I had to go down, with my hand a bit, then I was able to push it up,and on.
I did cut up my hand a bit on some rough glass, but i was able to slide the hose on to the vent and clamp it.I don't know, maybe I just got lucky.

Here's where my vent is,you can see it,just under the blue horizontal scaffold tube.It still has the masking tape on it,looks like a nub.
