I have also heard about boats sinking because they took water through the vents in heavy seas. how can you prevent this?

Regardless of the seas, if a Seacraft takes on enough water through the bilge vents to be in danger, in my opinion, it isn't rigged correctly and needs more bilge pump capacity. I have a 20 SF and have had it out in pretty snotty conditions. The bilge vents have never been an issue.

It may be less of an issue in drier climates, but I would keep the bilge vents for all the reasons stated above.

On a 23, the bow vents face forward so they scoop air underway and the stern vents face aft. Flip the bow vents around and that will lessen the amount of water intrusion while preserving some form of ventilation. Without totally deleting the vents there will always be some type of intrusion.

yep that would be me, I didnt miss a single bass day this year because of that little suzuki on the never satisfied. codfeesh do you have a small house on your red 23'? I figured that if i filled them that it would be one less place for water to get into the bilge. Plus in my opion I think it looks better.

nice,WAS A GOOD SEASON TO NOT MISS A DAY.yup its got a doghouse on it. bought it with the one on it made of starboard dont really like it but it keeps me dry so i havent change it yet.maybe this winter though..

cool man, I remembered the red hull beacause i think it was the only one out there. how do you like the i/o in it? any problems with it?

i know it sticks out like a sore thumb.i like the i/o but ive had my share of problems with it.motors benn hanging from a tree twice since 04 when i put it in.first was the coupler aluminum stripped out put steel coupler in no problems since.then oil pan was leaking probably my fault hit the quick drain plug that hangs out the pan a bit on the center stringer when putting it in the boat and didnt notice it til it started rusting and leaking.both things happened in the middle of a bass season of course,but i was atleast able to get them fixed fast myself.if was an outboard prob woulda been sitting at a dealer somewhere.other than that coil,water pump,alternator.

yea if something is gonna break its always gotta be during bass season.sounds like you have had all the same problems that i had in my i/o.
