My point was the power to weight ratio and with a top speed of 28/30 its not using the hull. Your using alot of extra fuel running those smaller motors so close to WOT. Now the sailboat guy is not running around all day but the boat will ride smoother with more power, yes it will plane but thats not the point. Although I'm not sure with a 60

376# Jonnyrude 150. Perfect power to weight. Probably drinks more fuel than that 90 @ WOT though.

Those old 3 cylinder 70 Johnsons would pull those 20' mullet skiffs along at a pretty good clip back in their day.

Remeber those mullet skiffs are made out an old kitchen tables - pretty flat, actually completely flat bottom LOL

Thanks for all your help guys-
I have decided to go with a 135 or 150 early mid 90's Merc/Mariner. I ran a 1991 135 on my 20 Seafari and that was a great match...plus lighweight, and I will still be able to do watersports and a little offshore etc.

excellent choice - btw alot of parts on V6 mercs cross over years and sizes, Scream and Fly is a great source for stock parts cheap - search function is not very good but try different stuff in it or post a WTB - somebody will have one

Being pulled and not pushed probably had something to do with it too..They were a pretty strong 70 horses though.
