Last year was the first time I didn't fish the Derby since '94 so I'm dying to get back. I target albies so it'll be interesting to see how this year stacks up. Sounds good Scott, hopefully we can make it work! No prob to bring your bro. I had a couple of 6 albie mornings without even leaving the harbor, so hopefully we get a year like that again. I usually take a week off of work for the derby, but I'm not sure which week yet.

ran a 14x20 ss suzuki prop turned 6150 and pinned at 42 mph. also ran a 14x22 ss powertech. turned 6000 and topped out at 45. could only run that prop with one guy and empty livewell.

Just splashed the boat today, still breaking the motor in.
I think the dealer has mounted the motor too low, tilted all the way down, the pee-hole
and exhaust port are bubbling in the water. If I tilt up a bit, all is fine, but that seems too close for comfort. I won't really know until I'm able to really get her up on plane, and see what my RPMs are, but I think it may be a hole or two too low. Boat is still self bailing, but it seems a bit sluggish and squatty. then again, I need to complete break-in before my opinion is really valid.

Llyod, I thought 6300 was within the range for this motor? Or is it 6200?

Could you explain what you mean here. I would think with that prop you would be within rpm range with a bigger load? Trying to iron all this out because I will probably go with the 140 myself.

My motor is a 2003, and manual says 5600-6200 max rpm. BTW, gear ratio for '03 is 2.38. Prop SS 13.5X18 Powertech PTR 3 blade Before I raised the motor, max was 6200, light load.

I stated in my post after I raised my motor 6300"+". Well I decided to see what "+" was (frankly, I was worried to push it up). With half load (1/2 fuel, 2 adults, 2 kids) I turned 6500 rpm/ 39 mph.

Prop is being repitched, I'll post new number when I get it back.

Yeah, I double checked my manual, 6200 rpm it is. I'm finally done with the first 3 hrs of break-in, so I'll be spooling her up this weekend. What kind of speeds are you all getting?

Ok, so she's turning up to 6400 RPMs easy with a full tank of fuel and one person, I was too scared to to push it any more than that. The cavitation plate is definitely under water when running. My gps has seen a top speed of 30.5 kts. Seems a bit slow to me.
The boat is in the water, so I haven't had a chance to see what prop is on there now.

Finally hauled boat for first service. Cavitation plate is a hair below the bottom of keel. The prop is a Zuke aluminum 3 blade. 14x17. I'm assuming that I need to raise engine up first, then start messing with props?
