if you're referring to the picture i put up :

the boat arrived at my shop in that condition-i've never seen fuel tanks in the condition the tanks in that boat were in.the boat had a fuel odor, owner attempted to repair...this gentleman was the luckiest man on the planet, gas powered boat, leaking tanks, never had a fire/explosion - ran it this way for an entire season.couldn't understand why he had a fuel contamination problem either-continued to blame ethanol,he didn't see the hole in the top of the tank, near the vent hose he had recently replaced....

1974 blackfin 24,gas powered inboard

here's what the tanks looked like:

So what do you think? Forget about that clown, say this guy has a tank in decent condition and the only issue is an over size tapped mounting screw on the tank. He has to drill out one hole in the sending unit slightly. If he has a cleaned surface, proper screws and a NEW rubber gasket, will not the rubber gasket do its job still in a non pressurized system?

the tanks in My 25 looked just like that!

Why maybe. Why maybe. Let me climb out of my box.

Why not clock the top collar and drill and tap all new threads. Split the dif. on the span.

Make a cone of something to catch the shavings. Spin the cone tight to insert. Open up the chute. Catch and remove.

Stiff wire on the outside of the cone may allow enough of a bend in it to provide happpinesss.

Cheers,

X2! Actually did this on a tank that I had, the screw was stripped, had the tank checked out and it pressure tested fine.
