If you want to get done fast and easy...go get a tube of West's Six-Ten.

The stuff does not run or sag, and after filling the gouge just run the spreader over the stuff and it fills and conforms really well. Most likely when dry very little or no sanding.

Six-ten is great stuff but if you think the repair actually does require some structure then just cut your pieces of glass to the correct size and wet 'em out on a piece of cardboard. Lightly wet out the repair area. Pick the wet out pieces off the cardboard and stick 'em on the hull, squeegee off the excess resin and it'll be fine.
