Scampi 814 04-13-2014 10:55 PM

And then there were 4. I new there had to be some others stashed away some where. They are too unique looking for most people to just throw them away.
This revelation also adds a few more questions . If there were only 15 or so made, mine is numbered 814, and Les has 824, (Michaels is presumed to be a Potter built, because of the different number and structural differences as compared to mine) how did they actually number them. Or might there be more than what is thought to be?
The one in Texas is #804 Michaels is #15011.

Looks like its been in a garage for 40 years. Awesome specimen. Must see more of this in large day-lit fotos.

Thanks for bringing it her to the party, Les.

VERY COOL !!!!!!!!!!! I think the Seacraft group of folowers are as tight as any of the "clubs" for other collectables such as the vettes and airstreams...

Model 804 is found and also a 814 and 824? Sounds like there may be 30 or so. Maybe. Numbers may of started at 800 and that would say there are at least 24 maybe more. Didn't the Moesly 21's start at model number 100 and then up from that? Just thinking out loud here...

Thanks

Hey guys,

Well I just want to say thanks for all the feedback. This is a great community of Sea Craft enthusiasts that have been nothing but good to me.

Every year this boat gets washed and waxed and then sits. Then winter comes and it gets tarped up. So now that I know I have a wonderful piece of history I can assure you guys that the Scampi will live in the garage and the camaro can live its life outside in the Elements.

My plans? Well if I have time and extra funds I would like to take her back out on the Detroit River this summer. She was last out there in 2005. She is in working order just needs a new prop, 2 new batteries and a good tune up.

Whats to come? Well when the weather prevails here in Michigan, I will take more pictures for you guys during the brightest part of the day so you can see her gleaming beauty.

FYI---Whoever owned this boat before us named it "Bushwhacker." The name is no longer there but you can see it ever so slightly.

And finally the answer to the very question many of you have asked me. Is she for sale? Well to be honest I know what might father paid for this piece of history. To be completely honest I wouldn't know how much she truly is worth and what to ask for. I just found out what I have not even a week ago.

Hopefully If I have the time I would like to get her back in the water and make a video of it and post it on youtube for everyone's viewing.

Thank you again forum for your gracious words.

Les

Les, Welcome to CSC! Where you will find addicts who can't have enough SeaCrafts, the enthusiast who tinkers all the time on their boat, and everyone really loves their SeaCrafts, regardless of year, size & model.

Your Dad was a very wise man...
Your boat is in incredible condition and your TLC through the years is very evident.

The numbering scheme for the Moesly Scampi boats began either at 800 or 801.
It was originally believed there were only 12-15 built. However, your number of 824 is evidence that there were at least 24 built. So far found is 804, 814, 817, & 824.
And then his successor to the company, Potter, also built a few and #15011 has been found and currently under extensive and incredibly beautiful restoration.

The numbering for the 21' started at 50 or 51. I have #71. There have been several other 21's found numbering in the 100's.

Enjoy your boat and if you have any questions, this forum is filled with experts to help you out.
Cheers!!!! Carla

It's news to me Connor! Pretty neat to have another rare Scampi turn up! Looks like it's relatively unmolested! Carla said the 21's were popular in the Great Lakes area in the 60's when they still had salmon fishery up there and then sales tanked when the fish disappeared. Island Trader and Gillie's boats are evidently survivors from that market! Would have never guessed that a 15 was sold there, but maybe there was a "halo" effect from the Moesly 21's! Denny
