My rational side is telling me to not cut up a Seafari, potentially ruining it. This is my favorite of all the Seacrafts, and I think a masterpiece of design. And looking at Denny's signature pic shows just how important that back end of the planing surface is in these 20' boats. I am intrigued with the concept, and love the outboard in a well boats. But I will probably re-do the transom for a notch mounted long shaft 90 hp OB.

Steve,

Just had an idea . . . you could accomplish the look of a motor well, and maybe IMPROVE the boat's low speed planning performance, by adding some bait/storage wells like the ones on this boat http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...850#post228850 Could build some cheap easily removable ones out of wood and try 'em out to see how they work. Then if they pan out, make some good ones out of glass! They would add lots of buoyancy to stern of the boat as well as some dynamic lift, so might help correct the aft CG problem some guys create by trying to hang 500 lb motors on a boat designed for 300 lb motors! Great minds think alike Denny! I was also considering that too. I would then have a rare 21 1/2' or 22' Seafari. Intriguing...

I'm thinking 2' longer. Boxes w/ sealed lower third or lower half for flotation. Upper part storage for light stuff: life jackets, fenders, etc.

Rough sketch:
