Tom - That's a 1999 150 two stroke Saltwater Series II . . . 2.5 - 3 is MPG not GPH. There is NO WAY he's moving that boat at 2.5 - 3GPH except trolling at idle speeds.

Here's a couple of similar setups from the yamaha motor's archive.

This boat had everything I wanted, it was perfect. We talked about the fuel burn, but perhaps i misunderstood him. So based on the links you provided looks like cruise is about 6 GPH burn.

Tom, 77SceptreOB (Jimmy Campbell) has it all laid out for you on #5, up on the "Performance" tab under "Yamaha 27 Year Nap".

Actually I think he should be going 33mph at 4300rpms, but you know that thing will probably throw a rod the next time he goes crappie fish'in. Troll'in for shell crackers - what a life! Bring that thing to the Gulf son, Kmoose will show you how to load test it.

One more question, there is a Seacraft for sale on Craigslist in Palataka, and it has a Honda F225 on the back. Wouldn't that motor be like 2-300 lbs too heavy?

This link is the one with the boat for sale..

yep.
A Honda 225 is ~600#. It is about a foot back from the transom on a hull designed for something like 300# on the transom. I'm all for lots of power but when the balance gets screwed up so bad that you are always worried about sinking, it ain't so fun anymore.

The 90 would have been perfect.

225 Honda, portabracket and 200lbs of baitwell water up high on the transom . . . . oh boy that is trouble.

I agree way too much weight on transom!
