Good luck either way...

If you go with wood instead of composites for the rebuild you should easily be able to get it done with your budget.

Your rite about the bracket thing, not so good on 20's... This coming from a guy with at bracketed 20. It can be done and ride ok but it takes balance and attention to other things to get it right. It is not a throw it on there and go thing. Spot on getting a quote from Hermco tho. I don't personally know him but I have read, seen, and been told about how good his work is. If you are not up to the repair get him to do a transom replacement and fix the damage and ride. No bracket will probably knock a 1/3 off the cost to fix it and you will have something much more special when done than just buying another new style production boat.

I would think $15k could get it done; new transom, re-tab stringers, new sole. If you stick to marine ply, its certainly doable. I figured about $20k once for a guy with a 23', and than included a new tank.

Feeling better

I spoke with another SeaCraft enthusiast and he put me at ease. To do the repair to the hull is not difficult just time consuming. So I'm quite a bit more positive then I was. Still sucks but it's a boat and I have bad luck with everything I buy and that's new or old. So at this time we're weighing our options. Me and the misses are already missing boating so will see. I'll keep you guys updated as we move forward. After all that we have found we still love our SeaCraft! Cheers...

Took out my transom drain tubes and found no rot in the wood. It was damp though. Second I cut a hole in the deck to gain access to the keel. The wood keel was damp but no rot to be seen so far. I did not cut the keel wood out because I'm waiting to have the bottom soda blasted first. I'll take some pics after I get it done.

Any body got any suggestions where I good purchase starboard cabinet doors for my console? It's 31x23 1/2. And a little update the boat has been soda blasted and I have been stripping it down for paint. Going to call the painter on Monday and see what his schedule is looking like.
