I just installed a f300 Yamaha on my 1974 23cc and raised the transom to 30".

You may be but there are a few things I think people are struggling with. One is the radical new design. I saw one up close and have a hard time with the look. I get the form and function but radical changes in appearance can go one of 2 ways in the public eye and I think they would have been better off going with the engine redesign first and then move to appearance change later.

Not sure of the cost difference either but I don't think anyone gets close to Suzuki's price point for repower. Don't they weigh pretty much the same as well?

Bottom line is that the G2 will need to get some service time on the water before any real confidence will be established. The other big three are getting so much transom time on the water it will be a tough road for Rude unless some real magic occurs in price point or performance along the way.

For that price Ill learn to like the look and put the savings into dash electronics. I too wasnt crazy with that look but I saw it in all black and its not that bad. Also, you can get those side panels wrapped if you choose. Watching the promo videos and plenty of good news there but I agree with you... longevity is key. I m just a little surprised more SC'ers arent biting on the power that this OB puts out, not to mention great fuel #ers & less maintenance.

I just got a new 30" DF300 installed with prop and upgraded Simrad C10 gauge for $18.4k @ International Marine Service in Florida. 5300 clams buys a lot of Suzuki love!

Sorry to derail, and I will be happy to move if needed, but I just picked up a '74 23 Sceptre. Not sure if I will keep the current config, or convert to a CC. Regardless, my thought is a 250-300 Suzuki or Etec on a jack plate.

Is it necessary and/or recommended to raise the deck, and if so, how much?

First, if you have a 74 it is a Tsunami not a Sceptre but that is just semantics. To answer your question, a 250 is more than ample power and is what I ran on my Tsunami for years. Raise the deck.... ehhh I don't think it is a necessity if you don't mind a little water on the deck when everybody runs to the back. That said, if you are getting into a restore that involves replacing the deck, fuel tank, etc. I would put it on the top of the list for improvements. It's a major project but in the end it is a better way to go if you like dry tootsies.

The part of the deck has been pulled and the 110 gl tank removed so I think it makes sense to go ahead and raise the deck a couple of inches- do it right so there are no regrets later on. Still going back and forth on the deck layout, but leaning towards replacing the single 110 gl with two tanks- maybe a 65 and 45.

Dont want to derail any more so will start a new thread when i get started. Just saw many 23 owners here so thought I would take advantage of the knowledge.

I would love to put a G2 on my '99 23, but I have a perfectly functioning F250 and can't see spending all that money when my boat already runs well.Good luck with it.
