And I think Old'scool was trying to tell me it was a stupid idea.

That said I think I just convinced myself that the Bay Manufacturing extension is going to be mandatory, been hoping not to have to modify the engine. Doing all this and then swamping the engine would not be good at all.

I agree. do it once the first time that way if you do get a new 30 leg outboard you will be set.

Far as old'sCool comment, I just think he was saying if the platform was to low it may drag in the water. That is possible but with good measurements and design it can be avoided. Most up here believe a 25" leg on a 23 will put your powerhead too close to the water. (I agree in most cases the 30" is an better option but a 25 is doable if carful with set up. I think 23's are better off with the longer leg though)

Yeah Josh makes a real nice fiberglass bracket. That being said I would take Moose and Frizz's advice and go with a 30" shaft. Even though I don't have a bracket, when I bought my new engine I wish I had raised my transom to 31" and went with the 30" shaft, the 25" works fine, however I would have liked the powerhead 5" higher out of the water. From personal observation, Moose's 30" on a Hermco looks and performs very well.
