Re: Wilma (Other tom & Captain Chuck?)

Just got off the landline with Chuck. He has No power, Has water.Staying at His son's with power. Lost screen panels from his screen room. Debris in the SeaCraft. Had a Seafood festival with His stocked Fish's(Many a diff. kind including some eXotics) & crabs(Alaskan) & shrimp & lobster from around the Globe.Too bad Guess he's gotta start fishing & travelling more to re-stock for next year.(before the CSC Get together)Fed the neighbors. Their doing fine just inconvienced.
Got a report on Joey headed up to S.C. Got water damage.
We're eXtremly lucky. Sure is bright here! No tree's ! Cut the neighbors three trees off my house No damage. My biggun & the few palms & bannana trees. Oh well They'll grow back. Just a Lot of CleanUp ! This could have been a Wet storm & We all would've been In Big trouble! No Tornado's Which is Very common on Fast moving Storms IE ;Andrew. We had substained winds at 110 gust in the 120's , for a while(2+ hours). We were in the edge of the eye wall all the way through it.the eye just north. The back end of This gal was really bad. My boat cover got ripped up pretty bad.Whew! Gotta find another one of those.Don't think I'll go custom again. It got cool in the mid 50's ,so its been comfortable for those without power compared to the typical 80+. The Warm front is coming up.
Scream'n Reels'
TUG
Gas is the Big problem down here too.
The lower Keys below the 7 mile bridge is still without power. West of US 1 (baySide) was flooded pretty bad from the storm surge. No word on Reels Smoker or others Down south? Sho do Hope were through for this Year ! Till Nov. 30th !

Re: Wilma (Other tom & Captain Chuck?)

My info pretty much mirrors that of Capt Brad - I've managed to speak with Capt Chuck a handful of times since the storm and received a call this morning from Joey down in Key West.

Capt Chuck said this one outdid Francis and Jeanne, and yes, he did sustain a bit of damage compared to 2004's events (screen, fence, tree's down, etc). He indicated that his boat came through fine.

I've not heard from anyone in Lauderdale which all reports seem to list as being within the hardest hit area

Joey indicated that due to the long lines at gas stations, he and his brother were going to siphon the gas out of my boat for their return to the Keys. That 75 gallons should get them all the way home.

Well I'm back at least for a few minutes.
We got our electric yesterday and today we got water from the tap to drink again. I have been doing yard work for the last 3 days. Lost trees, wood fencing, mail box and some other stuff but that’s about it. My boat cover took a beating as well. But all in all it could be a lot worse. Approx 80% of the houses on my block will need to be replaced not mine thank God. I watched my neighbor’s roof peel off and then the insulation flying up and out they have been sloshing around in their living room rug for a couple of days now. Trees down ever where you got to do some back tracking just to get through the neighborhood my guess 2 weeks before most will get their electric. I’m in the insurance business so I will be busy after we can get phones and electric back in the office.
I will be talking when I get a chance but I will be a busy boy for a while.

Hey-

if any of your south florida guys need a generator and are having trouble locating one or feel like you are getting price gouged....shoot me an email. The dealership I work for sells Honda generators.

Obviously, they would have to be shipped to Florida, but it sure beats nothing.

I'm just about finished with the clean-up and minor damage repairs. That was the worse storm I have experienced yet!!!! I'm thankful I escaped the furry but pray for the people who have lost everything in the recent hurricanes that have hit the south over the last two years

major damage. Any damage is bad enough, to say the least.
We have all had enough.

Wilma Pictures

Here's a few pictures I took just from my property I'm sure you have seen enough of the damage to South Fla. on the news.....

The first three pics shown were taken from within the house during the initial blow. You can see the screens being ripped out and the 100+ mph winds bending the trees and snapping off limbs. Blinding sheets of horizontal rain pelt the house.. Take notice of the 2'- 4' seas in the normally flat canal in my back yard.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...llback/eye.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...lback/frnt.jpg

This next shot shows my patio furniture I threw into the pool to keep from being tossed like missals by the category 3 wind gusts....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ack/screen.jpg

During the eye (approx 1 hour) the winds die a bit, the rain quits and then WHAM! they pick back up and slap ya hard from the opposite direction... It's kinda an eerie and silent aura!!!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...back/after.jpg

Then afterwards the damage can be seen....

Re: Wilma (Other tom & Captain Chuck?)

Well,Finally back home!As you all know we had a little water down here.I live on the second floor so no damage in the house. The fleet made it through just fine and my truck and jeep, but my wife's E320 seems to have bit the dust.Thank God,I hated that car!We probably had 2 to 3 feet of water.Anything on the ground level got pretty much trashed, but nothing that can't be fixed or replaced.Got news on Monday that I had to go to SC for a family issue and the lines for fuel were incredible, all the way from Key Largo to Ft.Pearce and were just as bad today comming back.
Mark,Thanks for the offer of gas,but filled up in New Smyrna and made to the Keys fine.
Glad to hear everyone fared OK.
The backcountry here is still quite cloudy and the wind is blowing a bit,but I think I'll go chum up a bonefish tomorrow and just chill!

Hey Joey, Glad you came through the storm good too.
One way to get rid of a vehicle you don't like.
Easier then leaving the keys in it, in Liberty City.
Bet you filled up at Casey's Shell. I bought gas there
Thursday at $2.51 gal. It is coming down. Yeehaw!!

Thanks Ken,I stayed on beachside so I hit the circle K on the way to 95.But,we did get gas in Georgia for 2.04 at a Pilot around mm29.Now,why can they sell it for 2.04, and I'm sure they are still making money, and everywhere else it's 2.50-2.60?

Re: Wilma (Other tom & Captain Chuck?)

Why does a Marina charge .40 + more than a regular Gas station ? They get the Fuel delivered to them the same. The average boat takes at least twice(4 times + + +) as much fuel as a vehicle. So they can't blame it as low consumption.
We've got 2 stations here 1/2 block from each other in sight & their .18 diff..

Re: Wilma (Other tom & Captain Chuck?)

We are generally fine. Midnight Sunday before the storm I fired up the Bertram, turned off the house panel and backfed the home so we could watch TV as it developed. As each band of bright red/orange on the TV radar approached (they had it zoomed in) we could countdown as the windgust would approach and then impact. It was waycool, but then the second floor of the house started to move, and roofs were flyng through the air down the canal. We had the roll-down shutter deployed, so it was hard to see, but pulled them open after the eye to seed the backside NW'rly take the neighbors patio roof and fly through the air into the Bertram's flybridge, tower, etc...bummer.

Many of my buildings are heavily damaged, but in 5 days, we have totally re-roofed 140,000 sf of buildings and dried in 200 apartments. It pays to be loyal to vendors, our roofing guys had spec bought 3 trailers of roofing materials, and we were first on his list. I drove to all our employees houses with 5 gallon cans of gas siphoned from the whitewater, and 2 coolers of ice and swordfish steaks with ice made from the Bertram. we were popular...

Fort Lauderdale and just north got hit hard, but the pains are easing and as soon as power comes on to most places it will be better. My whitewater is fine, we actually ran out last thursday, after powering up the boatlift with the a portable genset, and took the family on a boat ride. Well, we sort of had some rods on the boat, and it sort of looked nice offshore, so we sort of put the gear out and sort of trolled due east. 2 mahi, 1/1 wahoo (daughter wiffed boatside), and then the sun was going down, and I sort of had some frozen squids aboard, so we sort of went swordfishing. 9:15 a little guy darts into the lights as I was pulling the gear in, and I tossed a bait & the fight was on....without much freezer space, we released a 47" r after a short fight and ran home, back to our reality.

Hope everyone else down here is ok.

Good to have you back with us Diego. You and Joey got slammed with that surge. A buddy of mine who works for Jimmy Buffet was down there for the Parrot Head Party in Key West last weekend and said that there are large appliances sitting out all over to be picked up that got waisted by the surge. So let me get this straight, those flooded houses in New Town may now be sold as distressed for the low price of 1.2 mil for a 900 sqft house??? Seriously, the spirit of you guys and all the folks who endured the brunt of Wilma is amazing.
