Re: West Central Fla

I'm in,
Wife and I plan to pack the tent in the Ole' NoBones
and camp on the island Saturday night. I could run shuttle for those who do not bring a boat. It would be nice to have some kind of a pot luck lunch as a group.
Attached is the link for Anclote
See ya, Ken

Re: West Central Fla

There are multiple spots close for pickup's, and I will be staying over as well. I just got a new tent and 2 cots, need to put the tent up and check if the cots will actually fit :D There should be plenty of food, my cruise director is quite the master of island cooking. Also the grouper should be in close, 10 miles or less and I have plenty of numbers, as well as great snook and redfish right off the beach. I have 2 canopy's as well.

I can show up on Saturday, but Sunday is a very busy day for me. I'll find y'all on Saturday afternoon w/ the Fishalot (my Seafari)

Re: West Central Fla

Thank God you will be there Fr. Frank, I think we will need
all the positive direction we can get! :)
This should be a good time. Hopefully we can get the rest
of the East Coast guys to caravan over togther.
Time to get the list going. I will be happy to keep score on this. Maybe we can get some of the out of state guys to join in. Face it how many chances can we have to meet the inventor of our world famous boats. I can hardly contain myself. :D
See ya, Ken

I’ll be there if it’s at Anclote Key. It’s my backyard and favorite camping spot. The most beautiful barrier island on the West Coast for those that haven’t been there. I always camp on the North end where the Australian pines are.

Re: West Central Fla

Yall let me know your final plan and if we can make it out for a visit, we will. I've never been to Anclote before but I'm sure I can find my way. I actually have a few other Seacraft buddies (and possible a new one if he buys that Seminole colored 20' from George) that would join in. Not to throw another log on the fire but ya know another island that's a ball to camp on, real primative island with several open areas is Gilligan's Island (some call it 9 Pines) at the northern end of intercoastal water way, where it dumps into Anna Maria Sound (Tampa Bay). We take the girls there once or twice a year and they love it. Tons of stuff for them to wade for, explore island, the Bulkhead and Perico Cove right behind it for fishing. It would be right smack dab in the middle of the Tampa and Sarasota folks. It don't matter to me. Yall just let me know when it's finalized.
PS: thanks for the heads up EggDog. You're on the FS forum under the same name, ain't ya?

Re: West Central Fla

Yep same name, we considered Ft Desoto also but the Mosely's live in Inglis, so that would add another tough 60 miles from New Port Richey to the fort. Snookerd and Briguy are coming from your area, a tow up the I 275 to Largo/ Bellair would be easy to use the Bellair ramp at Clearwater Pass then run up the ICW ( no more slow zones). The ramps further north are harder to get to driving wise, I'd rather ride in the boat more personally.

Re: West Central Fla

That's cool. I'll just pull it up online, find the pass I gotta come in and try and see yall there (Anclote Key). Just let me know the dates.

Re: West Central Fla

Count me in!!! we camp there often and its only 30 minutes by water to my home, Bring lots of mosquito spray though. It is also only another 20 min ride out to some incredible fishing and diving spots! :D

eggsuckindog 02-21-2007 05:53 PM

Re: West Central Fla

Coming from the south Clearwater Pass gets you past all the No Wake Zones and you can run the ICW, although that time of year the beach should be a great ride.

Re: West Central Fla

EggDog- i was just in Bellair Beach last week. It is quick run Via I 275 to Rooselvelt Blvd. N. out to West Bay and on. Thanks for the heads up of where to put in....

Re: West Central Fla

WOW! That's a big'ars island! Makes Egmont look like a little dot. It's a state park or something, huh? Pretty cool
It'd be a fairly good hike but it'll take me les time by boat than road. I take it I just come in that pass just to the south of Anclote and yall camp on the inside or will yall be on the beach? I'll be coming from Egmont Pass, up the beach, then I guess I could just call one of yall.
What's the dates? I need to check with the little lady ;)

Re: West Central Fla

Yep its big, it is a state park now and the camping is on the north end. There is another spot called the North Bar, which is north the island and has no bugs at all. I'm not sure what to expect this early in the year but will do some trial runs, but one way or another bugs won't be a problem. Bathrooms are availible on the mainland. I have enough GPS #'s availible for everyone, around 10 to 20 miles so I would expect there will be some fresh grouper around for dinner. Snook and reds are everywhere including just walking the water :D I will be staying Sat. night and probably FRI too as NoBones said he was coming Fri. Bones lets do the new thread now to clean this up-take it away

Re: West Central Fla

Posted on Florida Sportsman and have 2 Classic's coming from Bradenton who will ride up by water. They asked the distance so I will figure it and post here too.

Snookerd 02-22-2007 05:51 PM

Re: West Central Fla

It may be 3 or 4 by water from Bradenton :D

Towboat-thanks for the info on the distance from the FS Forum.

Re: West Central Fla

We will be on the north end of the island- approx 48 miles from the mouth of the Manatee River, you can duck inside at Clearwater Pass and miss all the no wake zones if need be. I'll have multiple trips done before this to check out the best spot as they apparently built a pavilion on the northend and see what condition the bathrooms are in. I usually have camped on the North Bar to get away from any bugs but this time of year shouldn't a problem. There is deep water availible in most spots but sounds like we will a good number of boats so i'll check that as well.
