I used the smooth side of a large Drill bit you know the end that goes up in the drill it work perfectly! Just another idea....

Hadn't thought of that- what a great idea- and I don't need to worry about the calories that are at the fast food joints where I'd get the dang spoon to begin with!!! :cool: :cool:

I used radius wax availible from any fiberglass supply. they make different sizes, I used 7/16. Sculpy putty also works great you just need drill bit, socket with extension or a wet spoon.

My first hatch project came out with a lot of alligator cracks (is that what its called?). Although the hatch is the correct size and shape its probably not worth fixing it because they are pretty major. I think what happened was I put the 2nd layer of gel coat on too thick and when it was drying it was chemically quagulating in spots. Can I use just one layer of gel coat, but put it on pretty thick or no?? thanks

The same thing happened to mine when i sprayed the 2nd coat of gelcoat on. Are you going to paint the lid? Which I did so I took some evercoat(putty) and filled in the bad spots(alligator) and snaded them smooth and they look perfect! So if your going to paint don't trash it repair it and paint it!

one coat is fine put it on thick, wait for it to get hard and tacky then put your 2 coat of mat down and roll them out .

I had a problem using that aerosol sprayer with the glass jar attached to spray the gel coat. It really never sprayed well. Is there anything out there that is better? thanks.

i used a hvlp gun from home depot like 60 bucks.

either use "starboard" (beefy plywood crossed w/ azek) for the synthetic look or use teak and a biscuit joiner and make it from scratch, then cut to size...imin charleston too and have biscuit joiner you can use if you want to go that route...

Actually we made one and are working on another. it turned out pretty good. I will post pics when I get a chance. Glass is easier to work with than I thought it would be, oncee you have the steps down.
