You must go through planer blades like crazy with that hard teak!

Dave, after conversing with Jim today, he said as hard
as he tried to honor your wishes the grain still came
out with the likeness of Obama..

Damn! Well, Jim made it so I could disassemble it and varnish the pieces individually. I'll have to see if I can rearrange the slats and find Elvis. Obama will have to go.

Yep, you got it! It's assembled now for shipment, but can be disassembled to allow the louvers to be reassembled in the order of Dave's choice....to get that PERFECT look of a charactor he likes. :D :D

Any more sugguestions from the peanut gallery as to what the likeness should be???

Jim

P.S. This would be a nautical Psychologist dream!! What do see, sir? ;)

ECONOMY Cabin Doors for Sale - $195

I know most everyone is on a budget these days. Accordingly, I have made an Economy louvered cabin door and it is priced right! $195 for it as shown: sanded wood ready for you to stain it a color of your choice, then varnish.

Also, If you want to buy it painted, It's $225 with a base primer coat and a top coat of paint (White in color)

Same great construction / design used in these as the Teak doors.

Re: ECONOMY Cabin Doors for Sale - $195

I know I'm chiming in late to this thread, but wondering if you still had a set of the teak Sceptre doors available. I have a '78 23' Sceptre (Trayder put pictures of it in the "Gallery" section under Chris Downey's 23 Sceptre) and have basically destroyed my doors (my own fault). You do some beautiful work!

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

I sold the few I made earlier this year. I would be honored to build one for your beautiful and historic Sceptre23! Let me know.

Re:Louvered Cabin Doors-BIG SALE!!

Ok fellow Sceptre owners I've got a deal (or deals) for you. I've been busy in my shop lately making some custom louvered doors just for Sceptres and Tsunamis. :D

I have 3 for sale. Each one is different.

First, the standard Teak louvered door. Perfect for getting your Sceptre back to the factory fresh look....$395 (normally $485)

Second, an "economy" louvered door ready for you to finish the way you want. Same great construction tech. as the Teak door...$195 (Or I'll paint it for an additional $30)

Lastly, a new creation I cooked up.It's a hybrid of PVC "starboard" and Teak louvers. The frame is made of Starboard and will never rot or decay, maintanence free. The louvers are Teak to reflect the original design/heritage and it adds color and refinement...$345

Let me know if your interested, these may be the last I make for a while.

Thanks,

Jim

This door is designed/capable of being easily disassembled to enable you to clean, oil, remove, or replace the teak louvers as necessary. the PVC "starboard" frame will never need any maint. See above picture.

Re:Louvered Cabin Doors-BIG SALE!!

77Sceptre,

I just found this thread and the timing could not be better. I'll take the full teak set if they have not been spoken for - just let me know how you would like me to send payment for $395.00. I've got a '78 Sceptre (see Chris Downey's Sceptre in the gallery section) and my doors are beeing held together by chewing gum and rubber bands.

Thank you,
Chris

SOLD! to Chris Downey.

I'll PM you my Pay Pal Account info. Also I need to get some exact dimensions on your boat so I can custom tailor the doors for a perfect fit. All Sceptre's are just a tad bit different due to age and wear, spreading etc. It can make as much as a 1" difference in the door frame i've found with experience. I'll include my cell phone number in my PM to you. Just give me a call to discuss.

**STARBOARD** Louvered cabin doors...

1 Attachment(s)
I'm come up with a "new" version of the Louvered Cabin door using PVC/Starboard. It will never rot or degrade and is basically maintainence free. Same mechanical joint (Dovetail Joint) as the originals except I've added internal SST screws for more durability. I just finished the first one, and it came out great! On sale for $395 (regularly $465). Fits 23' Sceptres and Savages.

Well I went ahead and trial fitted the STARBOARD Louvered cabin door today. Fit perfect and it is very clean & contemporary looking.

And the great part is it's virtualy Maintenance free!! No oiling & cleaning, varnishing, or degradation by the sun. Also the louvers keep air moving from the cabin (just like the originals) to maximize ventilation and minimize moisture and mildew in the cabin...

Blackfin26 03-25-2012 08:11 PM

These look very nice. I have a newer door but am in need of a replacement for the original teak frame the door fits into. Have you fabricated any of those? Thanks, Steve

77SceptreOB 03-26-2012 08:21 PM

Yep,

I had to replace one of my teak door jambs too. (Port side) It's a complicated piece, but I can do it...

Blackfin26 03-26-2012 09:13 PM

OK... PM what you think it would cost. If you're up for it. I'd need the assembly for both sides. Thanks, Steve
