The "perfect boat" is a hard one to find, but, in small power boats, you ought to be able to find just the thing in a Seacraft. One of the big days in my life was when I discovered that Potter had made a few Seafari 25s. I'd owned a seafari 20 and knew how good they were, I just needed something a little bigger. The 25 was it. Found one within a year and then spent the next 2 or so talking the owner down to something half way reasonable. They seem to come up in batches, 2 or 3 in a year and then nothing for several more years. I've had mine two years, done several Bahama trips, lots of diving and camping and had it out in modestly rough conditions. It's perfect for me.

Bushwacker,
Well, if I wrote what I really think about rough water performance, nobody, except a 25 owner ,would believe me. Last October was canceled. The weather turned to stink the day before we were to leave and stayed that way for a couple of months. Next year is coming fast. |

I believe he said he was looking around in the New England area? There are lots of boats on the East Coast but very few in Mn or calif were I'm from. I too bought my first Seacraft without ever seeing one or riding in one because.... THERE WERE NONE TO LOOK AT! I had to go to Arizona for my first one. This guy lives in Seacraft heaven...he was looking at a 20 sceptre and now is talking about 23 sceptres and 25 seafari's which tells me he really should take a look at a few boats before he makes up is mind. :) The 25 Seafari is a heavy boat. Highliner do you plan on towing this boat or keeping it in a slip? What kind of tow vehicle do you have? Where do you spend most of you time fishing...inshore or offshore? Are you really going to use the cuddy all the time? or would you rather have the extra room to fish? We are here to help you get your fix soon but I would rather you get the right fix for you. strick |

If you want the nicer and bigger cabin then go for the 25 seafari... but unless you are a munchkin you will still not be able to stand all the way up. The 23 Sceptre has a small cuddy but tons of deck space. Read my posts on the 25 seafari before you purchase one without first sea trialing..... Good luck.

Also read the two threads Bushwacker referenced above. They will give you a good overview of the quirks of the seafari 25. It is a fabulous boat, but not for everybody. Its so sharp, it leans a lot when turning. I hardly notice anymore, but sometimes my passengers freak out if not warned ahead of time.
On buying sight unseen: Assume you will need a major redo, no matter what it sounds like. Not a bad assumption for a 40 year old boat, even if you get a good look at it. Feel free to PM me if you have some more detailed questions. Connor |
