Carbon fiber panels came back the other day. I'm really pleased with how they came out.

nate22 03-19-2012 09:23 PM

FishMagnet nice paint work, I like the colour and how it turned out. How much paint did you have to use to cover the out side of the hull? how much paint did the inside take?

FishMagnet 03-19-2012 09:59 PM

Nate, Im not really sure how much paint, but if you really want to know I can ask. I know that he has sprayed atleast 5 coats on the outside and 3 on the inside because of imperfections that are more visible after painting. The boat had been redone before but it was a backyard job and he is trying for a real high end job. He still has to paint the inside and edges of the hatches with smooth white and the gunnels and deck with white non skid. Im hoping to see that done by the weekend.

Yes please do. I'm getting ready to paint my 23 and would like to get an idea of how much paint to purchase. I'm using Awlgrip Ice Blue on the sides and Snow White for the inside.

FishMagnet 03-20-2012 02:46 PM

Nate- I just talked to my guy. he says he used a gallon of off white and a gallon of ice blue on the outside of the hull and plans to use another gallon of each for the inside. Hope that helps. BTW be careful with your choice of white-some of the white awlgrip colors could be blinding as they are super white.

The rubrail went on today

GodsReel 04-02-2012 10:40 PM

how hard was it to do the metal rub rail, i have never done a metal one and i am gonna be due soon.

FishMagnet 04-02-2012 11:49 PM

It goes on in two stages-first the hard plastic rub rail gets positioned and screwed to the boat. then the stainless piece gets positioned and screwed on top of that. The two things that you have to be careful with: making sure that the screw holes in the stainless pieces are not near the bends in the corners, and planning ahead so that if the screw holes in the stainless overlap a screw in the plastic that you can remove it and go with one screw thru both pieces.

Got them from Craig on the Hull Truth. They are 600 lumen LED lights that draw .8 amps and are very nice for the price of about 25 dollars each plus shipping. I have them under my gunnels too. Everbody that sees them wants them. they come in 3 or 4 colors

his number is 910 209 2920

Blue_Heron 04-05-2012 05:18 PM

Thanks for the info.

Old'sCool 04-05-2012 06:17 PM

This is awesome but, the brass washdown nozzle needs to GO! First time a chunk comes out of the deck or console you're gonna be (pick adj. here) :)

FishMagnet 04-05-2012 10:31 PM

No worries, Ive got plastic nozzles by the dozen.

Post a picture of the check you had to write for that beautiful boat. I wish I had that talent to use on my re-build.

FishMagnet 04-10-2012 07:49 AM

I went to the Palm Beach boat show 2 weeks ago and saw what they were getting for a new 23 Albury and a 23 Contender. I didnt feel so bad about what Ive put into my boat after that and its going to be essentially a new boat except for the 34 year old hull.

The deck is now painted with non skid and the hand rail is installed. He is going to spray a clear coat over the outside of the hull today and then the rest of the boat will be assembled. Definitely entering the home stretch

Capt Chuck 04-20-2012 08:10 PM

Nice refurb! You will enjoy the auto-pilot for sure. ;)

BTW: How did you config the gutter drains for the forward deck hold & for the bow flush mounts & the transom rod holders?

Also: Where do you store your Armstrong ladder?

FishMagnet 04-20-2012 09:17 PM

Thanks Chuck. I am pleased with how its coming together.

The forward deck hold is plumbed to drain thru pvc pipe back to a thru hull in the transom.

I am not using the Armstrong ladder-I had a Schmidt and Sons ladder that installs under the bracket and can be deployed from the water. We will bolt that back on after painting it.

I believe that the anchor and foward bow flush mounts will drain into the bilge but I need to confirm that. If not I will have them make a drain hole thru the anchor locker to the outer hull.

red20 04-21-2012 07:12 AM

I went by the shop to inquire about replacing my transom on my MA. Real nice people and great work being done there. I walked around your 23' and I must say it looks even better in person.

Old'sCool 04-21-2012 06:39 PM

Really NICE!! Keep the pics coming!

FishMagnet 04-22-2012 08:16 AM

Thanks for all the kind words guys, I should be getting it in the next few days and will post some final shots at that time. Charlie and all the guys at C and A marine have been awesome to work with-they really want to put out a quality product and it shows in their work and craftsmanship.
