A long way off from console work.

I helped Tuckerman get the core dry fit today. Getting there.

Any of you transom gurus out there, how do you deal with the gap at the bottom between the new core and the existing hull?

Seems there was an 1/8" to 1/4" gap of putty originally.

Old'sCool 08-05-2014 04:42 AM

Thats always been my question about replacing from the outside. Some Ive seen have not removed the top covering allowing, at least in my mind, a larger gap. Keep up the good work. Its looking nice! I really like the baitwell/console!

Core all bonded in, now to cut the notch and make everything look pretty again.

Any advice on where to cut to make it a 25" transom? Exactly 25 to the vee. Plus or minus??

Pic not much different that the last except for a few clamps.

Pick not much different that the last except for a few clamps.

I would cut it around 26.5-27" if you cut it dead on 25" you will have to raise you motor to the bottom holes and may not be able to get it high enough. At 27" you would end up more center way with room to go either way if needed.

Went 26.5" for the transom and narrowed the cutout a little while staying true to the SeaCraft lines. I'm happy so far.

Nice job and I am very interested in following your progress as I am almost to the point to start replacing my transom

Keep up the good work!!!

Must be nice to have a garage big enough to do all these jobs and have all your tools and materials under cover too.

A little more progress tonight. Added the Outer skin to the back of the transom and applied the first layer of fairing. Some of the interior stuff was glassed earlier as well.

A little sanding and mudding tonight.

Couldn't do it without the help of Tuckerman. He's becomming a regular SeaCraft guru. He just painted a 20 Tracker in the bay next to mine.

Well, work resumes.
Got the old rubrail pulled off today and the boat indoors again.

Need to start prepping for spider crack repairs all over especially near the hull/top joint. Any suggestions?

Also going to cut out the deck and check the stringers for wet foam?

How do you get the floor live well out? It's not going back in but don't want to do unnecessary damage.

Anyone fill in the old steering cable relief on the port seat?

Won't need it with the raised transom. Plus using Hydro steering.

Was thinking about filling with foam or coosa then glass and fair. Suggestions?

DonV 12-18-2014 04:48 PM

Yeah, 'ol Up_Chuck must be feeling better now!! Glad he got that bad stuff out of his system. :)

Got most of the deck out today, still trying to formulate a plan.

Anyone successfully raise the deck and keep the drain channels??

Some pics.

Foam fun.

There is a good inch of water in the bottom of each stringer, and the bottom third of the foam is wet.

This boat has been mostly inside since about August. Goes to show you can't really dry out wet foam or balsa core.
