Beg to differ.....

Way to much VDR for a good flats boat!

The Ole' Hewes has the best vdr for a flats boat...

Update

The engine bay and underside of cap have been painted. The first seat has been removed from the mold and the second will be removed early next week. The exterior/interior of the boat should be painted by the end of next week. We're moving!

Ryan 02-01-2014 04:30 PM

Awesome Oly is the man!

Caymanboy 02-05-2014 07:56 AM

Hmmmmm, I haven't been over here in awhile. Been over on the "dark side" trying to edumencate the masses.
It's not working out so well for me. :-)

Looks like someone has been sneaking pictures------.

The way we are making molds for this boat, we could make a new boat.

She is coming along (not quite as fast as Mike has stated) :-), but close.

Should see the hull in primer this week, paint the next, then start on the liner.

Shop is crowded , need more room.
Herman, I'm coming up there!!!!!

With a hull mold you sure could make one hell of a small bay boat for sure!!!

wattaway2 02-05-2014 07:37 PM

Oly I still think making the molds is a great idea

Ryan 02-05-2014 09:23 PM

I worked a couple of boatshows for Sailfish boats and the owner, Paul Hoppes told me he built a 16 foot vdh For a guide. They said the hull was very loose at speed and dangerous in the turns.

Mr Hoppes is a heck of a nice guy I introduced him to Denny, Carla, and Skip.

Makes sense.... Not every hull configuration is good for every application. A SeaCraft is not a BayCraft for a reason.

IMHO...the Scampi is a perfect ICW boat for cruising to TB to TB :D

The Scampi is coming along.
Rolled over and starting to put stuff back in, as opposed to cutting and taking out.

Plexi bubble complete. Seats/mounts being installed.

Caymanboy 03-06-2014 07:44 AM

All I can say is.
I appreciate Michael's patience.

Restoring a CC is one thing.

Doing this little Scampi is a little different.

Plus building molds to fabricate the seats and hatches, plus Michael had the bubble done. Time and money.

I was worried about the seat mounting, I found something I like.

Plus, I have a couple of surprises even Michael doesn't know about. :D

I think a lot of people just don't realize how much time it takes to plug and mold a simple part, much less large and complicated ones. Looking good Oly, keep us posted.

I plan to incorporate the plexi bubble into the new hatch like the original. I definitely got a fair price on the boat (the lowest 4 digit number) it's just the cost of transport, a new trailer, and professional restoration that costs a bunch more. I know it will all be worth it when it's completed hopefully around January.

You may be a little young for this Michael, butttttt------.

"Whatchu sayin Willis?" :D

Wow! Just incredible work! A true rare classic has new life here, great job...
