Holes in the bottom of the boat are filled in. This is inside the in-floor bait well. Thank goodness he only had a 6-shooter... I've seen SeaCraft's with many more holes in the bottom for bait, they still float doe.

I'm moving the steering wheel to the left side of the Center Console. Re-designing layout. Probably need new gauges and switches to make it look good.

A few places need some fiberglass touchup. And a random photo from under the gunwale.

SeaCraft 23 Front Seats -- taking shape!

Here is my idea for seat cushions. I didn't want to lose the rail completely, but I wanted the seat backs to go as high as possible, so this is what I came up with. I used Microsoft paint to draw cushions in over a picture. I just grabbed some contrasting colors, red and pink, so they would stand out. Cushions will most likely be all white. Very Rough, but you get the idea.

Center Console work. I finally figured out what that indention is on the front of the SeaCraft center console. It's for the original plexiglass windshield. Found a picture showing the windshield going all the way down into that groove on the front. It was to counter balance against wind pressure I guess. Since I won't have a windshield, I'm filling it in for a smoother look. Moving the steering wheel to the left and going to flush mount electronics, so the sliding doors are history. There will be a flush cabinet door next to the electronics so I will still have access to about 1/3 of the right side up top, to store stuff. Also moving the hinges on the front seat so it will lift from the front instead of on the side.
I didn't believe how much it would cost to renovate a boat. My quotes were adding up to much less that what I read about on the forum.... But, now I see what happens, one change leads to another. And, once you get started, it's really hard to stop. |
Project is looking good, I like the new seating. I've been trying to figure out what that console indent was all about and had been planning to remove the one on my '89 console as well. Thanks for solving that mystery:)

Glad I could help. It took me several days searching the internet until I found a picture of a center console with smoked plexiglass and I could clearly see that's what it was for.

SeaCraft Decals from eBay. I tried to pick ones that looked accurate. I was going to move the bilge pump thru-hulls to the waterline. But, after looking at the SeaCraft's Logo placement, it looks like it will be OK without moving them, since the Logo's on many SeaCraft's are about a foot away from the transom. That should make things a little easier.

Front Seat progress. I decided to keep the bow rail's original design.
|
If I had to do my bow-rail over I would go aluminum with stanchions like Contender. They're vertical and look much nicer.
|
Thanks for the info. I will probably re-do the bow rail and T-Top in a year or two, so I'll definitely keep that in mind. It's too bad it's not in my budget to do everything in one shot. But, I've decided to "stop the madness" and finish up with the fiberglass and painting that I've already approved, and not do any more changes or additions... We'll see if I can stick to that... Lord, I hope so! :) The decision to stick with the original bow rail and T-top this week was my first step.

Splatter paint almost gone!

just an idea I sure wish I had done when re-doing my console...make a recessed type throw tray on top,one inch deep ,on one side or both sides of the compass. It is pretty thick up there,so it s easy to do.just cut out a rectangle, maybe 1- 1/4" from the top edges, and glass a flat bottom on the INSIDE of the console top, then finish the edge off.Nice addition....also,think about hinging the front seat from the front, not back.so the seat cushion and backrest don't hit when opening...my 2 cents... AND nice Rebuild !!
|
I like hearing ideas like that... Gives me options I may not have thought of. Keep 'em coming. Thanks.

Choices! Of course they don't make the same size compass any more. So going with slightly bigger. Go big or go home, right?! The Blue won out over the black, but man, both are nice.
|
Thanks For the decal info. I decided to go without the "S" logo since I don't have the vents, a more modern look. Another tough decision for me, since I like both the classic and the new SeaCraft looks.

Finally, after the boat sat for one month with nothing happening, now we are making progress again. In the last 2 days, the center console has been redone. The next stop for the console is the paint shop. Check out the new layout. And when the new smaller 13.5" steering wheel is installed, everything should fit nicely. The steering wheel was separate, go figure!
Note, there is room for a much bigger GPS... just sayin'. Maybe when the boat is done, I'll save up for a big-screen. |

Wanna sell the old wheel?
Bat eyes bat eyes. |
@gofastsandman: you betcha I'll sell you the old wheel. If I can ever get it off of there. It's stuck on pretty good. If I can't pull it, may come with a helm, and a tilt, too. I'll let you know what happens. I definitely can't use the big seacraft wheel with my CC setup. The guy who's painting the boat said he was going to take it to the shop and try to pull it. If I recall, standard methods did not work. I'm still waiting to see what happens...

Drive some shingles under it and pop the shaft with a soft hammer. Soak and heat before. Not a lot. Put a puller on it for a few days before the whack. No such thing as standard practice when salt is the enemy. You can only hope to gain understanding and patience. All have bags of tricks. I like the older masters. Their bags may be bigger. |
