The race hulls are completely different animals, They do share the VDR or stepped bottoms but only have 2 steps per side vs 3 like on the production hulls. The race hull is a lot narrower, a little longer (mine is closer to 28 foot) and a whole lot less weight. She was built to do one thing and do that well.

Congrats Frizz-

I saw that advertised on craigslist a few months back but assumed you knew about it as it was in your home state.

I have been trying to stay off craigslist as it tend to make me spend $, I have glanced at it monthly vs daily to try and avoid the probable outcome. Couldn't resist this on though.

Havent found one yet...

Title says hull #001, but it also says 1971. Supposedly it was the first one after Potter took over, built for an aircraft guy (pilot?) in Palm Beach... Got it from my uncles brother in law who bought it in 91 from original owner.

You came all the way to Daytona without saying hello? I was a day late and a dollar short due to the FB listing. I guess membership has its privileges. Haha

I do not FB.

Congratulations!!! That thing would have been on its way to Mike at WildFire today. Nice score.

Ok, ok,.....I am that crew that bought it. Thanks to Casey, I was up to bat on the opportunity to buy the 27 2 weeks ago. It was listed on Boattrader and it lasted less than 24 hours. My brother inspected it in Daytona and a deposit was made. Today, Corbin and I made the haul up there to meet the shipping co. I wanted to sign off on the inspection, and oversee the boat loading process. I’ll admit, getting my first look at a SC 27 in the wild was awesome. Where do I start-high freeboard, 10ft. beam, Fly Bridge and no bottom paint. Thanks to the crew who helped with the plan. The restore begins.....

Hey, I resemble that comment! That’s strategery with Cheap azzville.....Its all about allocation!! The race is on-Who’s 27 will get done first and who will get the coveted Gucci Stamp hangs in the balance!

Crazy how puny the stringers in the originals were...

NoBones 03-28-2021 09:23 PM

That's because the hull is a full 1/2" + thick of fiberglass..

Snookerd 03-29-2021 01:54 PM

Interesting stringer set-up. I'm looking forward to pulling the I/Os and getting the tanks out to see how things look.

Ya gotta love the pressure Snookerd has put on his Cheap azzville team!! Please forgive me Mr. Henley, but the lure of the "Gucci Stamp" has a very strong appeal!!! :)

That is what the wife gets when you bring a new money pit home. Mine got a Lexus on the last rebuild but that seemed pretty standard for a 23. The 27 definitely warrants the Benz.

No HOA for now!! I remember when you picked up your 27. I can’t believe it’s been 11 years. Looking forward to seeing some progress on that boat!

I got the Mrs. Up on the boat today. She is already saying “our boat”. The battle may have already been won.

One thing I will say about the weight- This boat is definitely a minimum of 7000 pounds dry.

Lordy Bess Snookerd, that's quite a beast! How big a resto are you planning? Have you given thought to what power to bolt on out back? Good luck & have fun!

Snookerd 04-01-2021 03:02 PM

Hey Bmajvi-Yea, this boat is the epitome of overbuilt. It needs lots of power...twin 165 I/Os came out of it. those were the original motahs. I am thinking 300 Zukes. Mercurys would be nice though! After talking to Freddie on his 27, at least I will be able to run on 1 300 up to 40mph if I have 1 300 out of commission. The gelcoat is in very good condition. Non-skid is shot, but the cores only look bad in the hatches so far. I will plan on:
1 a new transom and transom door
2 new 300's
3 new bracket
4 re-wire with new electronics
5 new tanks plus a fresh water tank
6 And then take it piece by piece after that

The goal is a hard top, enclosure, 2nd station, a/c for the cabin and enclosure, windlass, custom transom seating and in front of the console seating. The plan is for the 27 to be in Palm Beach County and the 23 to be in Manatee County- FL West Coast.

Where are the old 165 I/Os?

Snookerd 04-01-2021 07:19 PM

Those were sold or given away prior to when I got to the boat

Actually in your "moment of weakness" you remembered the costs of the required 1/2" fuel line replacement and the cost of the new Biden gas prices to feed those V6s!! :)

Ah, to watch fuel gauges move in real time.

bmajvi 04-03-2021 09:14 AM

Sounds like that'll keep you out of trouble for a while :-), and will be an awesome boat when you get her squared away - please keep us posted on your progress! Is that an aluminum bracket? Any chance a floatation tub could be welded on?

Congratulations on your 27. Definitely go with an extra floatation bracket. I have the drawings from Armstrong if needed. Boat came standard with two 150 gallon tanks I believe. When I replace mine, I am thinking of leaving forward tank at 150 but cut down rear tank to 75, which will help lighten up the aft end a bit.
