Fellow brethren-I am officially in countdown mode of 58 days to leave with the Sceptre to Great Guana. 6/15-6/24. Anyone one to run to Grand Cay on 6/14. I set aside an extra day for a night at Grand. We could cross together on 6/14, hang out, fish, spear, stay a few days....

C'mon brethren! Somebody should be all over this! I'm Starting to get fired up about my electronics… It looks like I'm going be buying the bad elf pro GPS that connects through Bluetooth to five iOS devices at a time paired with my navionics app and the Garmin inreach iridium sat tracker with two-way text / SOS to go with my waterproof ACR 406 PLB.

I have a Bad Elf Pro and tried to go Ipad just for kicks but the screens wash out on IOS devices in the sun and require you to take your sunglasses off unless you use them at night. I have 2 Garmins, one 7610 xsv and a 4212 xsv to handle the nav and sonar requirements. I did bring my Ipad on last years trip and expanded my cell coverage before hand to have internet coverage. I have a G2 vision card for the Bahamas that worked as well as the Navionics app on my Ipad.

Mel and I would love to go with the newly refirbed sled but I just can't commit to travel plans when 3 party work is being done on the boat. Done by dates seem to only be an estimate.... that and Mel has been requesting add ons. :)

Ouch!! That's gonna leave a mark! :)

Must find restrainnnnnt.

Snookerd 04-20-2017 09:45 PM

 no comment! I just spoke to Mike at international marine today.... He is heading over to the Abacos for a month this Summer. I may take the boat over to his shop to officially get their blessings and three Hail Marys! Ken- thanks for the heads up on the poor visibility of the iPad.

Snookerd 04-20-2017 09:48 PM

I have an older Garman 530 and it looks like or I can pick up a GXM 31 to get XM weather. Any thoughts?

The offer is still out there! The boat is going to be sweet when it's all done!

I have an XM antenna for my Garmin 640 and it works pretty well. Depending on what subscription package you get, you can get weather radar, buoy reports with wind, wave heights (but only in 3' increments!), etc. A side benefit is that with an accessory cable I can plug the audio output from the Garmin into a Bose Ipod Sound Dock or even a stereo after I finally installed one, and get satellite radio.

Snookerd 04-21-2017 06:55 PM

GPSMap 530 XMWX weather

That is a great visual with those rain clouds! So, I've been on the phone with Garmin to get the adapter cable numbers to find an aftermarket set on Amazon and I just lowballed an offer on a weather antenna which the seller excepted for $75 . The cables do have the audio output for satellite radio, like you mentioned. It looks like the fisherman package for 29.99 seems to be the one that I will probably get. Called the owner of the restaurant next to my rental house On Guana Harbor to see if he had some extra space on the dock… he just opened up a new restaurant down the way and said I could use the dock for the whole time I'm there! It looks like I'm just going to have my iPhone with navionics app utilizing the GPS chip as a back up to my Garmin. Oh yeah, I also found a G2 vision SD card for the entire US in Caribbean for $75. It looks like I might get a handheld VHF with the new DSC button on it.

DonV 04-21-2017 08:08 PM

Jeeeez........I feel like I'm being walked on!! You're pushing me out, taking my place. :(

Sincerely,
Mr. Cheap Bastard

Snookerd 04-21-2017 08:19 PM

Hahaha

My apologies! :D I think the term is discount quality! That should be our new motto! That dang DSC handheld VHF is going to kill me though… $200 bucks minimum!

T`was at the fishin club yahhhd sale last Saturday and scored 3k baseball cards for 50 clams. Most from the 80`s - early 90`s. All near mint or mint. Never flipped.
A Palm Beach box no doubt. `75 full team of Mets and NYY. Oh well.

Mostly whole series collections.

Lots of sorting goin on here.

Snookerd 04-27-2017 08:47 AM

I am now stuck crossing to West End with a 23 Proline:eek:.

Snookerd 04-29-2017 10:36 AM

All the new Garmin parts came in.... data card, Sirius XM weather, and XM radio hook ups. It works perfectly!

Snookerd 06-14-2017 06:25 PM

Well, the crossing was quite bumpy and it rained at least half the time. Never saw the sun until after we cleared customs at noon time. 13-15 knots. The ride on the Bahama bank was flawless. Sitting at Grand Cay right now. This could have been a CSC gathering! Next year brethren!!

How is your forecast?
Should have the 25 done next spring.

"The weather is here......"

Typical chop on the bank yesterday. No rain. 10-15 knots of wind. The weather is great here. With Corbin showing up with an appetite for beer...I'm proud to say we traveled with 3 cases of 🍻.

Looks like paradise.
Not Jealous at all...

Snookerd 06-26-2017 11:17 PM

It was paradise! The weather kept us island hopping and no fishing. It was an incredible trip. Crossed in 2.5 hrs on the way back.

kmoose 06-27-2017 02:59 PM

Thanks Ken-Refueled at West End 2 times. 1 time at Grand, 1 time in Green Turtle, 1 time in Guana. Refuel-33 gallons WPB to WE, 54 gallons WE to Green Turtle, 62 gallons in Guana (9 days of boating-the whole time we were there!)And last fill was Grand Cay on the way back 32 gallons. I burned 50 gals to go from Grand to West Palm. Total of 230 gallons +/-. 206 miles each way. Average fuel burn was 8.2 gallons an hour :). That load is 5 people avg 160lbs each, 10 days of stuff and a full tank. I was thinking 2.75 mi/gal, but it was over 3.

Great numbers!

I`ll need three times the go go juice.

Snookerd 06-27-2017 09:29 PM

If you have a big tank, or fuel bladders, you could offset costs for a long time. My fuel burn was way better than the 23 proline with a 225 Honda. It was 30% better! He added close to 50 gallons to my 33 gallons. I hope he was less than full!

gofastsandman 07-03-2017 08:10 PM

New deck is in order so I want that ballast tank back.

Brethren-I have held out on you....I apologize. I didn't want to step on any toes about bragging about this trip. I have come to the conclusion that many of you that are holding out on going to a CSC gathering, and you may need a great BIG dose of what fun and insanity awaits. You might say the lackluster efforts of our crew to get this thing going is part of my motivation to push the needle further over. Just this AM on the THT, I read this posting. After wiping a tear away, I thought long and hard about how to light that fire under my salty brothers! So, here are some of those 13 days to the Abacos. The first couple is what the sea state and sky was on that scary trip across, lol! Enjoy!

The Adventure Awaits

Don- Thanks! Yea, I don't want to be "that guy" thankfully we have GFS! We are only a couple Zukes and G2's away from giving that sorry Boston Whaler group with 20 boats a run for their money! If a jet boat can do it (which I met 2 groups and their jet skier), then what are we doing??
