Fuel tank support was soft when I yanked the other tank. I was a little too careless and aggressive with the sawsall on one side. When repairing the damage there was water weeping from the middle of the glass. Grinding back the area there was over 4ft of delamination holding water b/w the hull and stringer layup. The tank is now in and foamed in place. Engine is going on today. I'm glad I found out now rather than later. SeaBass opens next weekend, so I need to be in the water this week.

That's a lot of moisture. At some point in its life, could the hull had been submerged ?
Did you taste it to tell it was salt or not :p

Maybe. The foam was bone dry, but the water smelled like a combo of swamp crotch and shit foot. : )

6 layers of glass on the outside repair, 6 on the inside to build up the repair / stringer and 2 wet epoxy resin rich layers of 1808 on top.

yikes, the bass are starting to show up.you are doing it the right way...what do ya think top end with the 150?? 36mph?

Blackfin26 05-15-2017 09:59 PM

Best of luck patching her up. June 26 is just around the corner.

22Conch 05-16-2017 10:03 PM

Something's not right in your setup, either engine too low or wrong prop.

I agree with Ryan -
Hence, the "X2".
I get 34 mph with my little 72 cubic inch 3 cylinder 90 E-etc with three divers tanks, coolers and Chit! Therefore, somtin' ain't right 22Conch!

22Conch 05-17-2017 09:46 PM

Ill look into both. What do you think cruise and top end should be. 70 gal fuel

bgreene 05-18-2017 05:18 AM

How about a 23' with twin 9.9 hp outboards..........for offshore use ?

Fuel burn should be decent, and I figure loaded with full fuel, gear, 4 fat guys WOT trimmed out just right may reach 12 mph ?

I know, watch out for chine walking, but shouldn't be too bad.

DonV 05-18-2017 07:32 AM

Why stop at twins?? Trip 9.9 hp with the tiller handles spaced and tied together for ease of use. Shoot why not tie all the pull cords together so you can start all at once! Don't forget to use SS props, counter rotation on the left engine. :)

2008 USCG A2 rated hose installed new in 2011. I struggled for a half day trying to get it out until I used my head and broke out the come-a-long. 10ft of brand new hose already in.

uncleboo 05-19-2017 07:54 AM

I used a big dude...bout 6.4 265#! ;)

77SceptreOB 05-19-2017 11:44 AM

I used 2 people and the push-pull method. And a pair of vise grips on the pull end

wattaway2 05-19-2017 09:24 PM

I used two pc's of wax paper one at that damn 90 degree corner and one around the hose

SailorChlud 05-20-2017 10:12 AM

Yikes! How easy was it to put the new hose in?

Much, much easier.

Bigshrimpin 05-20-2017 10:00 PM

New hose went in super easy . . . took 10 minutes. One step closer. Engine is on.

Lookin' good!

Bigshrimpin 05-28-2017 09:50 PM

Finally got on the water today 15knots of wind 2ft chop.

15p Enertia.

38mph WOT with one person full 110 gallons.

36/37mph with 4 adults and 90 gallons.

77SceptreOB 05-28-2017 10:40 PM

Pretty good. With the wind or against the wind?

captbone 05-28-2017 11:12 PM

Exactly as expected. How was rpm?

Bigshrimpin 05-29-2017 01:43 PM

downwind . . . it'd bounce b/w 39 - 40

5700ish on my old analog tach. Hopefully I'll get the new smartcraft stuff soon. The nice part about this engine is that the you can use your old controls, tach, harness with a $40 (84 896542T01) adapter.

With the 15 enertia . . . speeds are almost exactly the same at the listed rpm's = http://sailfishboats.com/wp-content/...F10032013Z.pdf

captbone 05-29-2017 02:46 PM

Awesome news. Congrats. You knew the results would be good even when others pissed on the idea. Well done. How is fuel economy?

Thanks again for your support :) Fuel Economy is great, but I won't have exact numbers until I have the smartcraft gauge. I just finished the 8 hour break in period today in the rain.

McGillicuddy 05-29-2017 04:18 PM

Excellent! Great to hear it. I'm gonna guess she climbs out of the hole well w' the 15p - how low does she hold the plane. really looks right.

Ed 05-29-2017 04:49 PM

Those are great numbers, Tim.

Makes me wonder how twin 150's would perform on my 27.

Ed 05-29-2017 05:20 PM

Check that....I need 30 inch shaft motors or I would have to replace my bracket.

DonV 05-29-2017 06:09 PM

Wierd, you would have to go all the way up to the 225 - 350 hp Verado to get a 30" motor. The 150 hp four cylinder would require an extension kit(s) to get to 30". That's not very sporty of Mercury :)

Ed - Bay Engineering makes 5" extensions for the 4 stroke 150, so you can make them 30". I'm not sure that the warranty would cover it, but there is a guy on the Bertram site running a single 150 on his Bertram 25.

OK Terry #3, a standing start race between your Bertram 25 with the 115 eTecs and the Merc 150 hp Bertram!! It might take a little bit of time to get the the 1/4 mile marker, however it would be a fun challenge to see if you could drink a beer before they cross the finish line :)

Gillie - I have to use some Tab to hold it up, but it'll hang at 13mph.

I had a single one spooled up to 4750 RPM's and tilted the other one up. Pushed that Lockeed L-1011, wide body, Carl Mosley - Miami to Nassau 6,000# contender 18 knots. In power to weight, it's still hard to beat a water cooled chain saw. Us ol' dirt bike riders know there's nothing like being "up on the pipe".

Quite good, got to be super efficient pulling that off @ 3K. Congrats on the results. Nice calculation.

Thanks Gillie! I'm gonna throw on the 17P enertia just to see what happens. My prediction is 5500rpm with one person. I wouldn't run a 17p except with a light load (1 or 2 people max and fair conditions).

Bigshrimpin 06-01-2017 10:12 PM

17P enertia is too much for the boat with a full tank.
I could only get 5200rpm and the hole shot was not good with the 17P enertia.

Going back to the 15P enertia.
