Wishin' you all the best. Old friend, Dive master Mitch, reported survival from Grand Turk... Area 442 party was a good call. Way to bring in the peeps, No Bones! Hope Patti made it back to the ranch. Good luck on the SW side fellas, looking vicious. |
I can officially say we had the CHIT kicked out of us....
Anemometer kept pegging at 99 MPH !! Rain 9.73 inches... Quick recon of house, shop and road, going to have to cut our way out.. We are all alive and well though.. Hope everyone else is OK. (Gillie Patti made it home just in time...) Pics after daylight.. |
Glad to hear you're ok. Praying for everyone else!

Lots of wind and trees/branches down in Palatka. Kinda similar to Matthew but longer duration of high winds and more rain. Less surge here. Power went out at midnight so cranked genset for freezers and went back to bed. Boathouse still there but expecting boardwalk to let go soon because of waves from SE. Grilled fish, shrimp, and lobster have been excellent though.
|
CRAZY.......got back to the house at 8:00 am, no damage at all, never lost power, water has not went over the seawall, just crazy. I was expecting really bad things!! Just now I was just watching the local news and they have changed to storm surge from 5 - 8' down to a -1'....huh??
Good luck to all!! |

We pulled through with no damage but are out of power and running a generator. I see where several of you have called me during the storm and I apologize for not picking up as I have been busy as a one armed paper hanger running logistics for my company's restoration effort. Both Mel and I work for a large energy provider and this is game time for us.
Yes we were very lucky. Cuba did a great job starving this monster and the mainland path shattered the eye wall and that fat bitch fell apart. |
"the mainland path shattered the eye wall and that fat bitch fell apart"
Yeah the eye, what was left of it, went about 15 - 20 miles to the east of us instead of the projected 30 miles to the west. HUGE difference!! Dodged the bullet! Happy you and Mel are good!! |

Stayed at my Mother in laws but lost cable friday at 8pm lost power early Saturday morning. I the Day got progressively worse and had 60 to 90 mph winds. No damage at her house. went by my hous and had to wind down many streets due to large trees blocking the streets. When I got to my house it didn't look to bad until I went around back. This huge tree fell over and crushed my pool screen enclosure. I knew all along this tree was going to go. All of us are ok and the boat too

We bugged out of Sarasota for Gainesville when it looked like a 4 coming over our heads. Boat is in an rv storage in Ocala, no power so I couldn't get it out. I came home today, no issues here, did not even rip the lanai screens, Power came on about an hour ago; Karen comes home tomorrow. Feel very lucky and very blessed.
it was really odd watching the eye ( or what was left of it) go up the west coast, while all the crazy weather went up the east coast. The eye passed about 20 miles west of Gainesville, minimal wind, while Jacksonville was getting pounded with 80 mph gusts. |

100 miles west of where it went would be a whole different story. The entire west coast of Florida would look like Big Pine Key. Look at the bright side of things Conner, your boat is well positioned for the Homasassa Gathering. |
Definitely a strange storm. Watched rainbands on radar and had gusts around 80 with the heavier rains. Around midnight here I noticed that the lower half of the storm had almost no rain and the last of the heavy rains were past us. Went to bed and all heck broke loose. Tree branches snapping off and hitting ground and a couple landed on the roof. The winds were howling at about 100 and we were a long way from the center. Fence was crushed and lost some shingles, but boat just filled with leaves.
|
We didnt get any damage here, and my Seacraft was safe and sound in the backyard!

Same thing here around 1:00 AM With you and I about 70 miles apart !! Had those gusts over a hundred till around 3-4 AM Dogs barking every time something bounced off the roof... No way to sleep with that going on. More concerned with the 9.14 inches of rain running down hill washing my private road out.. Generac still running, going through 100 lbs a day !!! |
Glad to hear that you guys are fine.. us folks in Santa Rosa Bach are headed to Clearwater to help with the municipalities..a crew went to st Augustine.. they arrived at 10 pm 12hr drive.. and well we are going on 14hrs..and wished this dodge rode as well as seacraft. My ass hurts

Link for post-Irma Imagery
Post Irma aerial imagery of Keys and Naples areas for those that need to see if structures remain before going down. At this point, they do not show imagery for Sugarloaf/Cudjoe/Big Pine areas.
https://storms.ngs.noaa.gov/storms/irma/index.html I sent in an inquiry about imagery for Cudjoe and will edit this post if/when I get a reply. Here is the reply I got at 0837 on 9/13/17: Thank you for contacting NOAA's National Geodetic Survey We have had several challenges acquiring imagery for Cudjoe Key. These include other aircraft - search and rescue and supply that take priority, reduced air traffic control and refueling capabilities, and limitation to our operations - mainly cloud cover and having a local base of operations. We are attempting this area again for the third time this morning, hopefully we will be successful. Please continue to monitor the Irma website (https://storms.ngs.noaa.gov/storms/irma/index.html). It is updated daily - usually in the evening hours. IMAGERY OF LOWER KEYS IS NOW UP |
While down here ,are there any places to flyfish from Beach or Bank.. fresh or salt???
|
Fortunately, all fine in Satellite Beach. No property damage, but lots of yard debris. Power went out 5:45pm Sunday, and back on about an hour ago.
Canvas on the top took some damage on the 23'. I can live with that. Thoughts and prayers for those that were less fortunate. Lloyd |
Carla,
Where did Carl and Jeanne end up? Hope your house made it through OK... All the Best, Steve Quote:

its a hurricane and they have there own mind tha'ts for sure! they always seam to change direction at the end I thought the forecasters over all did a great job. Now I do wish I had my power and internet on at home but it will come someday

Skip, Carla and her brother Ron from Homosassa stayed with Patti & I. They left yesterday to go back to NO electric, NO water, NO sewer, NO cell service, NO internet / landline....... Carl & Jeanne were relocated to the center of the state north.. |
Imagery for lower Keys is up (see post #61 in this thread). Checked my In-laws house on Cudjoe; structure is still there, clearly a lot of surge damage, boat gone, neighborhood is toast. At least it looks like the roof is still there so we won't get as wet when it rains while we are rebuilding it.
|
Thank you for the update Ken. Praying for a quick recovery for them all.

Maybe I am not seeing it, but from the NOAA link and the flights on the 13th it looks like the vast majority of the roofs on Cudjoe and the surrounding areas are intact? What am I missing?

7 Days now Generac running 10 hrs. with a two hour cool down and back on for 10 more every day.
Burning 1/4 qt 10-30 Synthetic every 24 hrs... Consuming 100 lbs of propane a day... :( Patti & I ran to Wally World at 6:30 this evening, gave Generac an extra break while gone for an hour and half. Pulled in, hit Auto switch fired right up, opened garage door went inside unloading our supplies.. All of a sudden total darkness ..:eek: Grabbed flash light to go check old faithful. OverHeat light flashing red ! You know what I said and it was not "Oh my gosh"...;) Long story short the two spade lugs to the temp switch were not making a good connection.. (God bless Google) Cleaned and tightened them up and Varoom... Generac running smoothly again ! I hate spade lugs in a high vibration heat situation.... Going to drill holes and put screws with lock nuts when power comes back on... FP&L is saying Tuesday.. One glimmer of hope was an Asplundh crew was on my driveway today from 9:30 till 4:30 :) Only need pole replaced and line crew now. Seems to be a shortage of poles which makes sense with Texas taking most of them... If we get power by Tuesday Patti and I will likely only be able to come for the Saturday pot luck... Attachment 15663 |
Ken-
Sorry to hear that you are still out of power. That sucks... How much propane do you have on site and how much longer until that runs out? I wish I could offer some assistance Ed |

We have A/C, hot shower and TV and internet otherwise I would be living at my office ! I always lose At&T landline but not DSL ?? Have 6 100 lb upright tanks. My business partner lived out here long before I moved to the jungle... His words were do not put a tank in the ground as no propane company would be able to get to you in a disaster such as this.. He was right. At least I can throw those up rights in my old Chevy 4X4 to get propane.. Some companies will not even touch those tanks laying on their side in the back of truckee. "BS" Filled up 4 of them yesterday at $2.67 a gallon some places are charging $4:50 a gallon ! Also "BS".. We went 7 days with Matthew, went 21 days with Wilma ! The 6 boys from Asplundh were from New York they got a nice lunch all the water and soda they wanted.. As a bonus my Key Lime tree was full of fruit that was what they were really impressed with.. Needless to say they left with a big bag full.. I choose to live here and would not trade Area 442 for ANYTHING !! Just ask any of our CSC members that have been here it is truly a special place and Patti & I have been blessed... |
So glad everyone is able to say they are ok.... our plan for the gathering is done as Tab is working the texas storm "indefinitely" ... or that was what she was told.. Florida took a beating line o haven't seen in a long time !! But that flood in Houston was something else... there are still areas that people are just starting to be able to get into... est was 1million cars with water damage... (what she's working) and I never heard a bomber on houses...
|
Glad to hear that you have the ability to refill those tanks, Ken. AC and a fridge are probably the most important and comforting to know you have them both.
Just put Creighton, FL into mapquest to see where you are and now I know why you call it area 442! Highway 442 appears to run right across your town. Keep taking care of those utility and tree workers and you may get bumped up on the list :] |
Well I got about half of my shutters off and the yard cleaned up and roof patched. Think I will leave the rest of the shutters up and have the others handy. (Just in case)

Irma Cleanup
Good morning Ken.
We finally got power back for most of the neighborhood and most of my major cleanup is nearly complete. For us, it wasn't as bad as Charlie in 04. Let me know if you need anything over your way. Barry |

Well at 7:35PM the power boys from Plainfield, Nue Yauk got us going...;)
They wanted to see Alligators... So I said follow me to the pond as it was there dinner time anyways... You should have seen their eyes.. As they walked backwards to the trucks... ;) It also helped that I was headed that way with a Remington 870 Wingmaster..:D:D Told them those two gators like something different once in a while. Even with 10 acres of debris to still clean up, Blondie & I will be at the gathering for the weekend...:) New pole installed... Attachment 15677 Line crew hookin' me up ! Attachment 15678 |
