I’m right there with you Casey!! I’m thinking 23 right now. Although, having that 27 as you can attest, definitely lights a fire to get it up and running.
|
I live close by and would like to meet y'all, what's the main day when all the activities will be happening? I may cruise down to the dock that day.

Good morning everyone, looks like we’ve finally got some nicer weather again. The recent rains don’t seem to have discolored the Indian River all that much, so sight fishing should still be very much a possibility. Prior to the rains of the last few days, Snook continued to be the star, with larger fish still inhabiting the flats, and Tarpon are becoming more active as well in places like the Sebastian River, the Moorings, and others. Seatrout fishing has picked up a bit of late, on the flats and the drop offs around spoil islands, with live shrimp and soft plastics being most effective. Surf activity has started to pick up a bit, with bait showing up more and more, some glass minnows, Pilchards, and greenies. Snook, Spanish Mackerel, and the occasional Bluefish have been around for those putting the time in. Pompano fishing has remained viable, though not spectacular, and the water seems to be clearing up daily, so that should help. Offshore, Dolphin have been in close in the 80′ to 100′ range, and Sailfish just outside that, with live bait most effective. Kingfish and Cobia have been along the reef, but the Bull Sharks are a menace, as bad as any time in recent memory. Mangrove Snapper have also been taken in the 60′ range, on live and dead bait. Snook fishing in the inlets has been good, but mostly on live bait due to the very clear water. Good luck out there. |
Word has it we have a sell out ! No Vacancy..

Shhhh, It’s still me but I sneaked back in under a Nom de Plume. My question is “Do I need to bring my ol’ SeaCraft “Rat Rod” or do you or Trooper Ronnie need a deck hand?” |

NO doubt Ken!! Terry has been very busy then! It's a hard and time consuming job giving out free money to all the "takers" who are used to getting Gobberment stuff free!! Foxtrot Juliet Bravo! :)
|
Terry, speaking of building back better, I plan on getting my transom and deck done in about a month or two, which will entail taking motor off, etc. I just don't know about the repower and the timing of all this. I hope to have it done by April. You know you would be more than welcome aboard.

Terry - I have room for you on my boat. Just me & Teresa coming this time, no kids. I got a comfy deck chair with your name on it! And one for Marsha too!
Merry Christmas to all! |

Check Kazoos? Check Seeing friends? Yes |
Wish we could have made it but we had a close family member pass (Mel’s Mom) and things are pretty complicated right now.
Many thanks to Sandy for reaching out to get us on board. We will work on being there at the fall gathering. Hope everyone has a great time. |
Sorry to hear about Mel's mom's passing. I lost my father years ago and that's a tough thing to go through, hope Mel is doing okay. Look forward to hopefully seeing you both at Fall gathering...

Ken-Praying for you and Mel. I'm sorry for your loss! You will be missed....

Very sorry about Mel's Mom!! We know what you're going through, just buried Deb's mother at the National Cemetery in Bushnell. It's no fun, however we're thinking of you! All the best! Don & Deb

Sandy, Admiral Arden and I are contemplating bringing Dream Seeker up to the Sebastian gathering, which is an easy 2 day cruise from Stuart at 8 kts. Obviously we won’t be able to get into the gathering location with our ~5’ draft, but I’d like to try to find an anchorage that’s close enough for an easy dingy ride. If you or other members could provide approximate Lat/Lon coordinates of the docks being used, that would be a big help! Denny
|
2 day cruise ?? Stuart to Sebastian ?? What are you doing using paddles ?? Dang Denny, I have a 10HP Merc you could hold on the back and get that 50' tug there in 4 hours...
|
You have a point Bones!!! I've got a 24v trolling motor that would also work, as long as the wind isn't blowing out of the north!!! :)
|
You guys aren’t used to pushing 30 tons of boat! Trolling motors and 10 hp eggbeaters won’t do it, but a couple of old tractor engines, 2.5:1 reduction gear and 26” diameter props will move enough water that the stern of the boat will sink several inches in a lock when I put it in gear!
|
Wish I'd seen this earlier, I was just out there demoing my motor. Water does tend to get skinnier west of the channel, but I think there will be a place you could get into Denny.
Maybe Ken would put the 10hp on my boat if I don't find a new motor. |

Denny, there is a channel going into capt hirams, I don’t know the depth, but in between Hiram and the island to the north is a designated anchorage according my friend. If you can get into there, it a short run to the dock. In process of taking motor controls out but if weather cooperates I might be able to check on that if Kyle doesn’t know answer. Ron.
|
According to Google Earth, lat/lon for the dock are 27-49’40.06”N. 80-28’21.99W
Hope that helps. |
Thanks Casey, that’s a big help!
Ron, my year old Waterway Guide says the northern channel into those marinas is shoaled in and the southern channel is only about 5’; it says that shallow draft vessels (<5’) can use the anchorage near Capt. Hiram’s. We draw 4’9”, so maybe I could get in there at high tide, but not sure I’d be comfortable anchoring there overnight. Looks like tides are less than a foot in that area? Are they affected very much by wind direction? My Navionics chart shows 6-7’ depths between the island and the ICW and 6-8’ just east of the channel north of a sandbar in that area, so I may try to anchor there first and do some exploring in the dingy! You would be better off driving up US1 to the get-together and do a sleep over by sharing a picnic table top with GoFast. |

The pond would be good for you. |
Yeah Denny, I was a bit concerned about that. Your information is probably correct. Tides are about a foot, maybe more on full and new moon. West winds, yes. When I was scouting for this gathering last time, the wind was strong for a few days and it was very noticeable on the water depth (high or low tide was low). Years ago my wife and I spent the night on the east of the channel and stayed away from the islands to get away from the sand gnats.
Speaking of that sandbar, it tends to extend out into the marked channel, more so lately. |

Just checked the mileage and Sebastian will be an easy 1 day trip from Stuart. Finding a good anchorage is just part of the adventure! And Dream Seekers memory foam bunks and AC are a LOT more comfortable than Sandy’s table! |
