I just spoke with JorgeinMiami and he's going also so we may be able to share the ride. I would volunteer but my pickup is only a 2 seater.

Re: Post or Seats?

ok guys well i have a kinda retarded question about lean posts.. for those of u that have installed the lean post yourself, what did u use to secure it to the deck? thru bolts? or use big SS screws and epoxy to seal the holes or what? and capt. brad i would still like the measurements of the lean post u have in the MA so i can look for one roughly the same size for mine. thanks.

hey Blue- another alternative for you- i couldnt reach the undersides when i installed mine so I bought and installed those stainless t-bolts (1/4"-20 I believe)from west marine. I ended up using 2 in each leg and two screws in the other two holes. I used 4200 in the holes/threads and silicone under the legs themselves. Very solid.

Re: Post or Seats?

thanks for the tip offshore. can u remove those t-bolts if u have to or probably not since they are 4200'd in the deck.. i better make sure i want that post in that spot before i drill.. another dilema that i have is the seat posts i have are very solid.. should i just leave them and get the lean post that mounts on them or take them out and seal the holes with 5200 or epoxy?

Re: Post or Seats?

Not sure about removing the t-bolts- they will probably come out though. One reason I use 4200 instead of 5200 is for that reason- As far as using the existing posts , thats all up to you. Many many options out there. I bought a new Birdsall two years ago and love it, there are many other good manufacturers including one csc member who make really nice posts. The ones with 4 legs are also more versital than the two pedestals as you can utilize that space for everything from coolers to live wells to tackle drawers, dive tanks etc. When I measured to install mine I started at 13" from the front of the post to the console and adjusted it from there, i think it pretty much ended up staying there. If i were going to fill in those holes ,I would probably drill them out slightly to where I could coat the area with west and then put some duck tape underneathso as to make a stop, fill the holes with west , then sand flush as nessesary. If your floor is as chipped up and battlescarred as mine then its not a big deal, but when I do a complete redo here sooner or later it will be right. good luck- heres a pick of my post. BTW- i love my post but if i were to do it again, I would just get a fixed back verses a removable back, it hasnt been off since I bought it. :D
