Looks like a super score on that hull and trailer Ken. Way to take charge. Trailer looks new in the little pic and so does the boat :cool:, and regarding the road trip to find a boat I think a road trip is always a worthy cause even @ $3.50/gal, especially to find your dream boat -- God knows I'm due for a road trip...Heard there was a Seafari worth savin' in JAX... Maybe I'll head to Long Point just to say Hello, and meet some of you guys

Thanks for the note. I was pretty excited about the hull; it needs a lot of work but in a good way. The trailer doesn't have brakes, so I might have to let it go. If I am going to put the amount of work and time into the hull that I plan to, I won't need a trailer for few years anyway! So anyone who needs a duelly with no brakes and 2 inch ball, drop me a line!

The road trips are great, but I agree about gas (diesel is at $4 now), and I wouldn't trust my truck to pull a 23 for 200 miles, let alone up the east coast. I was just down in FL last weekend, and I completely agree that it is a different game down there. Does anyone know if the extra sun effects the gelcoat/glass in an appreciable way?

No matter where you end up getting it, it's still a classic seacraft, and the whole process is going to be a blast. I have to be honest, there is no way I would have even contemplated this project without the website; strick's 20, that great 23 with new decks in SC, etc (and that's only the first 2 builds I have read closely!).

Regarding "Sun" effect with the southern boats.

I have read that the "hull blister" issues are more prevalent with boats from the warmer/southern climates. I have seen this comment from a number of sources which appear to be reliable. Just somehthing else to be aware of and note when considering a hull from the southern climes.

Or you can do as I did....saw a boat in Cape Cod,got a bunch a pic's,went back and forth with the broker,bought her and had her shipped to Key West sight unseen. :D

Not to derail the thread but 4 bucks a gallon for diesel is a crime. Goin' for the same in SD. 30 min away in Mex it costs $2.11. A couple of buddies have 100 gallon tanks on their RAM 2500s and fill up every few weeks saving a couple hundred $$ per fill. It's a bit dirtier but with a couple of inline filters it's quite wothwhile. About time we got some help from the south side...

SIC = SeaCraft Industries Corp (1980 thru 1987 other SeaCraft Models) (Potter on Board of Directors approx 1 year after sale)
TXY = Sarasota Marine Corp ('86-'88 csy Parent Co)
SIC = Tracker SeaCraft of Fla (1987 thru 1990) all models
SXC = Stern Craft Corp (1994 Silver King Parent then Tracker Parent Co in 1995)

Regarding whether or not the 1987 is a good year boat, here is how I look at it.

If you are really interested in the boat have it surveyed. Check for the shape of the deck and transom, as well as the engines, electronics and etc. Also, take it for a decent spin and see what you think of the ride. After you do this, i think that you will have your answer.

we took a good look at it sat. original owner no bottom paint motors looked spotless (couln't have been cleaned this good)the boat seemed like it came out of a time capsule just no t-top i'm not the type to rush so i'm going to see it again just wanted some more thoughts on the year , waiting for solafide to see his as well
