hermco put a bracket on a 18 with a 175, wonder if he got any feed back on it? check out his gallery. I would love to do that to my 18.

Sorry to derail the thread, but it may impact this topic in the future.......The new 4 stroke Yamaha 250 V-max weighs only 505lbs as a 20". Tack on 10-15lbs. for a 25 or 30" and you have a similar weight to a etec/opti. BUT....the kicker is that it is 4.2 liter. That is bigger than the 300 Zuke displacement at 90 lbs less weight. If the VMax design is used on the F150, that 468 +/- lbs. may drop close to 400lbs.????? For that kinda power to weight ratio with a 4 stroke it will change the market! Here is the link:

Well it looks like I have a solid deal on a 2001 Yamaha 130 2 stroke. $2100 with very low hours (under 100), all controls, steering and gauges. I really wanted to go newer 4 stroke, but I also want to keep the total cost under control. I'm paying $2500 for the boat + trailer on top of the motor. The boat has a freshly installed tank, a new transom (nicely done but stock height) and new paint. I am going to do some wiring work, new batteries in the console, electronics and the inevitable details you don't always think of going in. I think this way I can get a sorted boat for $7500. More than I wanted to pay but I like the thought of having a classic, respected little fishing boat. Everything I've heard so far seems to indicate that the 130 yammi 2 stroke is a pretty robust motor and a decent match for this boat at 358 pounds.

thats a good price for a low hrs Yamaha 130. I think you will be pleased with the combo, and you can probably sell it in the future for about what you paid for it and pursue the 4 stroke and or DI path. I too have been thinking about a Hermco bracket but would like to have some feedback on the one Don Herman installed on an 18

Thanks everyone for all the help! The motor is a good deal because it is attached to an old, deteriorated and not desireable boat that needs to be crushed which will be my problem. I actually am paying $2600 for the boat, Yamaha 130 and trailer. THe trailer is old but serviceable so I figure that's gotta be worth $500 to someone.

Looking forward to getting to work. I've been searching this forum alot now and I have to say it is one of the best and most enthusiastic sites of its kind. Great community here.

Now you pros are going to have to tell me what else to do to this boat. I am going to get rid of the in floor livewell, put in a smaller leaning post (birdsall?), put twin batteries in the original console with an isolator so they both charge when running. Looking for a used 6" Garmin chartplotter/sounder, radio/antenna. Next step is whether I put a small livewell under the leaning post, or just go portable with a large bucket. Most of my fishing is tossing plugs, chunking bunker, or drifting cut bait so the livewekk is not paramount for me.
